About the role Rocket Lab is on the lookout for a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to become an integral part of our team in Toronto, Ontario. This pivotal role is aimed at boosting the efficiency and yield of the production processes for Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) components used in satellite technology. The successful candidate will possess a robust background in high-reliability manufacturing, ideally within the aerospace sector or similar industries, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement and design optimization for manufacturability.

• Document and analyze both existing and new manufacturing workflows to ensure clarity and efficiency.
• Develop and oversee the bill of materials to ensure accuracy and completeness in production.
• Create, revise, and maintain comprehensive work instructions for both mechanical and electrical technicians to follow.
• Spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing manufacturing volume and operational efficiency by optimizing processes, procedures, and workspace layout.
• Conduct research to identify and propose innovative solutions for manufacturing equipment and methods, and oversee the implementation of approved strategies.
• Lead design for manufacturability (DFM) assessments on new product designs to ensure ease of production.
• Investigate manufacturing discrepancies and non-conformances, conducting thorough root cause analyses when required.
• Carry out studies to project production schedules and associated costs effectively.
• Provide training to production personnel on both new and existing processes and equipment to ensure operational competency.
• Ensure alignment of local manufacturing processes with global operational standards to maintain consistency and quality.

• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, or a closely related engineering discipline is essential.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
• Demonstrated experience in managing teams and mentoring junior engineers is crucial.
• Familiarity with quality management tools such as Lean methodologies, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, and Statistical Process Control is necessary.
• A solid understanding of mechanical processing and assembly techniques, including machining and additive manufacturing (3D printing), is expected.
• Knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes, including soldering and inspection techniques, is important.
• Experience with environmental testing methods, such as thermal and vibration testing, is preferred.

• A Master's degree in engineering or a related field would be advantageous.
• Experience in the design or manufacturing of hardware specifically for space applications is a plus.
• Familiarity with software tools such as Infor LN, PowerBI, and SQL is beneficial.
• Programming skills in Python and/or SQL would be an asset.
• A background in conducting time studies and implementing layout improvements is desirable.
• Knowledge of cleanroom protocols and handling procedures for ESD-sensitive hardware is a plus.
• Strong organizational capabilities and the ability to work autonomously while maintaining attention to detail are essential.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary for effective collaboration.

The anticipated salary range for this position is between $114,000 and $143,000 CAD, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
