General Accountabilities :
  • Lead operations research, technical/economic/environmental/business/regulatory impact assessments and other specialized technical/business studies to determine transmission / distribution customer/system needs of a complex nature or covering a broad geographic area; develop strategies, alternatives and preferred solution; and facilitate delivery of solution through suppliers and service providers. Receive assignment from Supervisor in broad terms on specific problems related to assigned area of work. Recognize areas requiring study and recommend and participate in research and development programs that should be undertaken to improve performance.

  • Be responsible for monitoring, controlling and redirecting major programs and complex projects during the execution phase. Co-ordinate activities with Service Providers and stakeholders. Resolve issues through negotiation with the Service Provider and customer. Present recommendations to resolve issues. Resolve problems through analysis and application of highly specialized technology. Present solutions, producing necessary documentation to substantiate recommendations.
  • Lead the development, definition and preparation of programs, processes, technical/operational/business standards, procedures or methods, including risk management and costing, related to the management of transmission/distribution assets. Provide guidance to and work with other interested groups in the implementation of recommendations.
  • Prepare business cases for the management of transmission/distribution assets. Be responsible for the preparation of contract specifications and awards and provide necessary technical direction to service providers. Monitor service provider performance, give redirection, as required and authorize payment.
  • Act as a team leader and multi-discipline task co-ordinator for assigned projects. Be responsible for organizing, scheduling, coordinating and assigning work with instructions, for providing advice and direction, for quality, accuracy and productivity of assigned project groups.
  • Participate as a representative of the Company before regulatory agencies, etc, in endeavours to advance the corporate interests. Represent the unit on discussion and negotiation with customers, stakeholders and suppliers. Liaise with other internal work groups, divisions and outside interests.
  • Provide input to the business plan as required. Administer and assist Supervisor in the planning of work programs and development of operating budget. Be responsible for preparing submissions to the regulatory bodies (e.g. OEB). Analyze costs, including labour and material items, and provide explanations relating to variances.
  • Work with Service Providers to ensure capabilities to perform required works, negotiate contracts and performance initiatives, monitor and redirect work as required, and evaluate and communicate lessons learned to improve future contracting process and work accomplishment.
  • Maintain an awareness of advancing technology developments in transmission/distribution/business systems.
  • Assist supervisor in identifying resource needs and develop/mentor new staff.
  • Perform other duties as required.
