The Manager, Mechanical is responsible for leading and managing a team of mechanical engineering professionals while overseeing the successful delivery of mechanical engineering projects across commercial, institutional, industrial, municipal, and infrastructure sectors. This role combines technical leadership, project management, staff development, client relationship management, and business development responsibilities to and ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Based out of our Toronto office the successful candidate would be reporting directly to Vice President, Structures, Tunnels, Buildings & Systems.

Duties:
  • Manage, lead, mentor and grow a team of mechanical engineers, designers, and technical staff.
  • Lead the design, review, and approval of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and process mechanical systems for a variety of building and infrastructure projects across Canada.
  • Lead the design and commissioning of complex building automation systems.
  • Lead the design and commissioning of fire protection systems including wet sprinkler, dry sprinklers, standpipe systems, deluge systems, chemical systems and fire pumps.
  • Knowledge in CFD modelling including 3D multiphase, transient and thermal models.
  • Design experience and knowledge with ASHRAE 62.1, 90.1, SB-10 and LEED standards.
  • Hands on experience with building energy modeling with eQuest, Energy Plus or IES.
  • Knowledge in Energy and Heat recovery using wastewater collection or deep lake cooling systems
  • Knowledge in Air and Noise dispersing calculations, modeling and approvals.
  • Experience with CSA B139 and B149 including fueling systems for standby generators, cogeneration, and bus/train fueling facilities.
  • Lead the design of large standby generators.
  • Establish project staffing requirements and allocate resources effectively to ensure project milestones and client deliverables are achieved.
  • Provide technical oversight and direction during all project phases, including feasibility studies, conceptual design, detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews of engineering documents, ensuring compliance with company standards, applicable codes, and industry best practices.
  • Support with proposal development, planning projects and preparation of cost estimates for modelling and associated engineering works
  • Collaborate closely with structural, electrical, civil, process, environmental, architectural, and other multidisciplinary teams to coordinate project deliverables, and ensure successful project execution across all phases of design and construction.
  • Liaise with client, suppliers, regulatory agencies, utility companies and contractors, as part of business development activities; represent RVA in professional associations and agencies.
  • Develop and implement department standards, engineering procedures, design guidelines, and best practices to maintain quality and efficiency across projects.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory changes to identify opportunities for innovation, continuous improvement, and compliance with regulations.
