Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province’s energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we’ll need in the decades to come.

This is a unionized position that falls within the Regulatory Affairs department in the Legal Resources and Corporate Governance Business Unit.

• Under the direction of the Supervisor, Regulatory Research and Analysis, or the Supervisor, Regulatory Proceedings, the Senior Advisor will lead the development of strategic IESO positions related to electricity sector regulation. This includes cross-cutting topics such as gas-electricity coordination, the future role of local distribution companies, transmission expansion, and other matters that support IESO priority initiatives. The Senior Advisor will also provide regulatory research, advice, and information to internal groups.
• The Senior Advisor will represent the IESO in regulatory forums and share accountability for developing and recommending IESO submissions in policy consultations and regulatory proceedings. These may include the IESO’s revenue requirement and fee application, IESO and SME licence matters, LDC and Enbridge rate applications, and leave-to-construct applications, among others.
• The Senior Advisor will raise awareness among staff across the IESO of regulatory matters that may affect their work, provide direction on how to proceed, and manage the IESO’s interactions with regulatory bodies, including the Ontario Energy Board, North American Electric Reliability Corporation, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and Canada Energy Regulator.
• This position requires a passion for advancing the IESO’s mission and strategic direction, as well as strong analytical, presentation, and writing skills. The successful candidate will research and analyze regulatory developments while building broader energy industry expertise and contributing to the team’s thought leadership.
