Director of Finance

We’re excited to be assisting our client, a respected non‑profit organization serving communities in West Toronto, in the search for a Director of Finance. This is a permanent role and is primarily in office in West Toronto, and will be moving to a hybrid model after 6 months.

About the Role:

Reporting to the VP of Corporate Services, the Director of Finance will lead the finance team and oversee all aspects of financial strategy, planning, and reporting. This position plays a vital role in ensuring operational efficiency, financial compliance, and informed decision‑making at the leadership level.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead daily operations of the finance department and manage staff performance
  • Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with organizational goals
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and planning processes
  • Monitor financial performance, identify risks/opportunities, and provide recommendations
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards
  • Oversee accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions
  • Manage external and internal audits
  • Maintain banking relationships and cash flow management
  • Develop and implement financial policies and internal controls
  • Mentor and support finance staff in professional growth
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • CPA designation or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive finance experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role within the non‑profit or public sector
  • Strong knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and strategic planning
  • Familiarity with GP Dynamics strongly preferred
  • Skilled in managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Knowledge of primary health care or mental health sectors considered an asset
