Manager, Tax - U.S. Advisory

Principal Tasks and
Responsibilities Include:
Cross-Border Tax Advisory & Transactions:
Participate with senior managers, vice presidents, and partners on buy-side and sell-side cross-border transactions
Lead and assist on cross-border corporate and high-net-worth individual personal tax planning initiatives
Provide strategic U.S. tax advisory services with a focus on private clients and family businesses (70% advisory, 30% compliance)
Research U.S. tax issues, interpret and apply U.S. federal and state tax legislation
Research and interpret international tax treaties, particularly U.S.
-Canada tax treaty provisions
Review and prepare U.S. corporate, partnership, trust, and individual federal and state tax returns
Advise on multistate tax matters and complex cross-border tax structuring
Participate in regular training sessions with all team members
Provide training and mentorship to junior team members
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Canadian Tax, Family Office Services, Wealth Management, and Business Valuation
Manage multiple complex engagements simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines
Serve as a trusted advisor to high-net-worth individuals and private businesses on U.S. tax matters
Build and maintain strong client relationships with a focus on long-term strategic planning
Represent the firm in client meetings and contribute to business development initiatives
Qualifications and Pre-requisites:
Required:
Minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience in U.S. tax advisory and/or tax compliance with a strong focus on private clients (Big Four or reputable mid-sized firms)
U.S. CPA designation OR IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) designation (non-negotiable requirement)
Strong cross-border U.S.
-Canada tax experience
Proven experience with buy-side and sell-side M&A transactions
Multistate tax experience (not just federal)
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
Intellectual curiosity and creativity in problem-solving
Flexibility and availability to meet client and business needs
Good judgment and decision-making abilities
Open-mindedness and commitment to continuous learning
Strong team spirit and ability to work collaboratively
Exceptional client service orientation and professionalism
Public practice background (not in-house/industry only)
Preferred:
Master in Tax (MTax) designation
Canadian CPA designation (strong asset for cross-border work)
Experience with international tax treaties and cross-border structuring
Background in private equity, investment holding companies, or family office clients
Generalist mindset with exposure to various private client mandates
Additional Information and Perks:
Competitive base salary: $128,000-$200,000 CAD (commensurate with experience)
Performance bonus: 7.5%-15% based on firm, business unit, and individual performance
