The Manager, Accounts Payable (AP) is responsible for the leadership, oversight, and operational effectiveness of the Accounts Payable function within GAM. This role ensures timely, accurate, and compliant processing of invoices and payments, strong vendor management practices, and adherence to financial controls. The Manager leads a small team, partners closely with internal stakeholders across Finance, Procurement, and the business, and drives continuous improvement to enhance process efficiency, risk management, and service delivery.

This position is critical in maintaining operational excellence and supporting the broader organization’s financial stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and develop the Accounts Payable team, ensuring high performance, accuracy, and exceptional customer service.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and cross‑training to support resiliency and career development.
  • Establish clear performance standards and monitor team workloads, performance metrics, and service levels.
  • Accounts Payable Operations

  • Oversee end‑to‑end AP processing, including vendor setup, invoice intake, coding, approvals, and payment execution.
  • Ensure compliance with BMO’s financial controls, policies, audit requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Resolve complex issues related to exceptions, discrepancies, or escalations.
  • Maintain accurate AP records and ensure timely month‑end and year‑end closing activities.
  • Process & Systems Management

  • Drive continuous improvement in AP workflows, automation, and data accuracy.
  • Partner with Technology, Procurement, and Finance on process enhancements and tool upgrades.
  • Support the transition to new systems or enhancements (e.g., Smart Procure/Smart Expense, Revport) and ensure strong adoption and training.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and identify opportunities for efficiency gains.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a primary contact for vendor inquiries and internal partners regarding payments and issue resolution.
  • Build strong relationships with Procurement, Finance, and business leaders to ensure alignment and operational transparency.
  • Support contract, invoice, and payment‑related reviews in partnership with Finance and Compliance teams.
  • Governance, Controls & Risk Management

  • Oversee adherence to internal controls, approvals, delegation of authority, and financial governance frameworks.
  • Support internal and external audit requests, ensuring completeness and accuracy of documentation.
  • Review technical service agreements (TSAs) and support intercompany payment processes
  • Identify operational risks, implement mitigation strategies, and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Reporting & Insights

  • Prepare regular performance reporting, dashboards, and insights for leadership.
  • Provide analytics related to spend, payment cycle times, backlog, and exception trends.
  • Leverage data to support operational decision‑making and continuous improvement.
  • Qualifications

    Education & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Accounts Payable, Finance Operations, or related functions.
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role overseeing AP processing.
  • Previous work in a large, complex financial or corporate environment preferred.
  • Experience with AP systems such as Smart Procure
  • Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of AP processes, financial controls, and risk management.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage high‑volume workflows.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead teams through change and drive process improvement.
  • Proficiency with financial systems, AP platforms, and MS Office (especially Excel).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
