Job Opportunity
You will be responsible for conducting various actuarial tasks within the Corporate Actuarial Department focusing on Universal Life, including actuarial valuation of liabilities, analysis of drivers of earnings, experience studies, business forecasts, sensitivity / shock testing, LICAT components and FCT. You will also assist in the development of new corporate measures, as well as the implementation of new accounting standards and capital guidelines.
Responsibilities- Ensure that comprehensive and reliable actuarial models are developed and monitored with the focus on the Universal Life product
- Ensure clear and concise communication to superiors, focusing on business drivers
- Support the quarterly reporting cycles and provide value added analysis of results, focusing on earnings and capital
- Become thoroughly familiar with actuarial valuation standards, CIA guidance material and OSFI guidelines to ensure accurate technical implementation
- Become thoroughly familiar with the accounting and capital frameworks (IFRS 17 and LICAT 2025)
- Coordinate and conduct periodic and ad hoc sensitivity testing
- Become subject matter expert in the assigned line of business (understand pricing, valuation, capital, business drivers, drivers of earnings, etc.)
- Provide expertise on streamlining the valuation and capital infrastructure, especially in the context of the current frameworks
- Improve the model governance aspects of the Corporate Actuarial department
- Conduct periodic experience studies and present detailed findings to leaders
- FSA or FCIA (preferred)
- University degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or a related field
- Minimum of 7+ years relevant experience in the life insurance industry
- Knowledge of individual life products with in-depth knowledge of the Universal Life product
- Superior organizational skills with the ability to develop rigorous and efficient methodologies and models
- Superior computer skills especially in the AXIS and Risk Integrity environment
- Ability to set up detailed documentation that can be easily followed by qualified personnel
- Ability to understand and interpret complex guidelines and program them in models
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, focusing on relevant information and being able to explain complex concepts in easily understandable terms to a wide range of audiences
- Knowledge and experience with accounting and regulatory capital frameworks including IFRS 17 and LICAT
