Small Business Controller

Our client, a mid-sized professional services company (legal), is looking for a hands-on professional to manage the finance and accounting function. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional eye for detail, be extremely organized, and possess the ability to lead the team, report as required, and maintain confidentiality. This role reports to the president.

YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES ARE:

• Responsible for the overall accounting function, including hiring, training, and staff development.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages as well as forecasts in compliance with GAAP.
• Manage cash flow and control employee expenditures.
• Monitor accounts receivables and ensure the correct deposit of all monies.
• Prepare for year-end audits.
• Prepare year-end adjusting entries, accruals, and calculation of the lawyer’s surplus.
• Prepare allocation of the consolidated partnership income, Summary of Partners draws, and changes in partner’s capital accounts.
• Create and maintain budgets and forecasts.
• Conduct continual analysis of ongoing budgets and forecasts for all projects.
• Accountable for the implementation and maintenance of a system of internal controls.
• Maintain fixed asset continuity schedule and accrual schedule

• Perform multiple account reconciliations.
• Monitor condominium unit purchaser deposits in designated trust accounts and release deposits on a per condominium project basis.

YOU BRING WITH YOU:

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant controller experience.
• CPA designation is a bonus.
• Previous experience within a law firm is considered a significant asset.
