The Commercial Mortgage Underwriting Associate CMHC is part of a growing and dynamic commercial team. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the underwriting team from receipt of deal through to the funding stages for document fulfilment and review, loan set-up and reporting. They will ensure compliance with the Company's established lending and AML guidelines and deal requirements to achieve service goals and department-level targets.
Additional duties include assisting with the management of loan maturities, maintenance of team pipelines, ad-hoc reporting and special projects required by senior management. The incumbent will work closely with the Commercial underwriting team, Commercial Funders and Administrators and other internal departments.
- 60%:
On a daily basis, support the Commercial Underwriting team with ongoing management of active loans, including prompt set-up of new loans on SIT and RAISE, data management, and processing of CAFS for all approved loans; assist Underwriters with due diligence required to obtain Credit approval on new transactions. Review and analyze financial statements, lease agreements and other third-party documents. Ensure compliance with lending and AML guidelines and submit recommendations for approval to management.
Ensure lending criteria are satisfied and that outstanding documentation/conditions are met in a timely manner. Additional duties include loan modification requests and various ad-hoc requests. - 25%:
Engage in regular communication and analysis with Lending Partners and internal colleagues to ensure timely status updates on loan maturities; process maturities, extensions and renewals on SIT and RAISE to meet securitization/origination timelines. - 10%:
Communicate with external partners and internal contacts (funders, managers, administrators, QA) to ensure timely and efficient processing of transactions to deliver superior customer service and meet closing deadlines. - 5%:
Prepare departmental pipeline reports for management, including designing and formatting Cyberquery and Excel-based reports.
- Minimum of 2 years’ commercial mortgage administration experience
- Post-secondary education (diploma/degree) preferred, preferably in business or finance
- Good working knowledge of MS Office (Word and Excel)
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong business sense and solid technical knowledge of secured lending and factors affecting the commercial mortgage market
- Established organizational skills
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities
- Good time management skills
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
The position requires the incumbent to be a self-starter and to make sound decisions quickly and efficiently using considerable creativity. Commercial mortgage applications can be complex, requiring in-depth reviews of documentation, creative thinking and proactive problem solving. The incumbent will support the entire underwriting team and will need to be organized and manage time and priorities effectively. The incumbent will also support new Company initiatives and understand the impact of process changes on other functional areas.
Projects and assignments may be diverse and require creative and proactive problem solving.
