Manager, Due Diligence

The Opportunity

The role of Manager, Due Diligence is to protect OTPP’s assets and reputation by informing investment decision making through identification of operational and business risks in OTPP’s externally managed investments; and advocating for mitigants to those risks.

This role supports the planning and execution of operational due diligence (ODD) reviews of external managers and key service providers in accordance with the OTPP’s External Manager Due Diligence Policy and requires domestic and international travel, including North America, Europe and Asia.

Who you'll work with

You will frequently interface with senior management, executives, internal and external stakeholders. The nature of the relationship with these parties requires a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, influence, and the ability to defend one’s position.

What you'll do

ODD Reviews:

  • Support senior team members in performing operational risk assessments to be delivered to internal stakeholders including the Director and MD of the Due Diligence & Advisory, as well as the CFO, Investment teams, Legal and other stakeholders as required.

  • For each external manager, develop an understanding of its internal controls; deal / trade process flows; fund transfer, settlement, custody, and valuation processes; performance and risk measurement activities; regulatory and compliance environment; information technology systems and capabilities, cybersecurity programs, as well as business continuity and disaster recovery procedures.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Provide exceptional service to the Investment departments by proactively addressing concerns / issues and responding to inquiries and requests; and work with various internal departments to ensure the efficient and effective use of resources.

  • Assist senior team members in developing strong business relationships with internal stakeholders, as well as external partners and advisors to support and deliver upon Teachers’ Investment objectives.

  • Best Practices:

  • Support the adoption of best practices within the team’s activities to address emerging risks, new investment strategies, and other material developments (including the review and update of relevant policies and procedures as necessary)

  • Contribute to team effectiveness by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and maintaining quality standards for ODD deliverables

  • Represent the Due Diligence group professionally in interactions with internal stakeholders and external partners.

  • Participate in team planning discussions in establishing performance goals, and provide input on process improvements and resource needs.

  • Demonstrate OTPP’s values consistently in interactions across all levels of the organization and with external partners.

  • Demonstrate confidence and sound judgment in determining assertions and recommendations. Balancing competing interests and expectations across departments requires careful evaluation and deliberate consideration. This role supports a critical control point, safeguarding OTPP’s interests and identifying external operational risks that may not be immediately apparent to key decision-makers

  • Assist in identifying and advocating for solutions to mitigate identified operational and reputational issues both in support of partners and in delivery of risk assessments to Investment stakeholders.

  • Work with the senior team members to develop solutions to mitigate risk where there may be no precedent internally and little externally. Due to the non-recurring and analytical nature of activities, a high level of constructive thinking and collaboration will be necessary.

  • What you'll need
