Location:

This newly created Senior Manager role recognizes the complexity of partnership finance and tax operations and supports a growing professional services firm. The role reports to the Director, Partnership Finance & Tax, and oversees all aspects of the department’s responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the firm’s compliance with federal, provincial, and local tax authorities, including oversight of internal and external tax filings.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize firm and partner tax liabilities.
- Monitor tax legislative changes and analyze their impact on the firm’s operations.
- Provide clear and timely accounting and tax information to partners.
- Serve as the internal tax expert, advising on partner incorporation and other tax-related matters.
- Oversee allocation of firm earnings and monthly key financial metrics.
- Manage monthly and quarterly partner draws, including administration of quarterly tax installments.
- Direct partner capital programs and serve as administrator for associated investment funds.
- Oversee partner retirement plan, including coordination with auditors and reporting outcomes to the board.
- Coordinate audits and examinations with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Maintain compliance with U.S. partnership tax requirements for Canadian partners.
- Assist with annual forecasts, budgets, financial modeling, and partner compensation analysis.
- Support the Compensation Committee or CFO with partner performance and financial data.
- Mentor and develop the partnership finance team and other stakeholders, including onboarding of new partners.
- Collaborate with senior management on strategic initiatives, policies, and projects.
- University degree required; CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of taxation experience, ideally in a professional services environment, with leadership experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Canadian tax compliance; U.S. tax knowledge and law degree are assets.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian (and ideally U.S.) tax compliance and regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to simplify complex financial information.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and concepts.
- Proficiency in Excel (intermediate or higher), Word, PowerPoint, and tax software.
- Calm, collaborative, and approachable work style.
- Leadership skills to develop and motivate staff effectively.
- Strong time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
