The RoleA senior economist role on the Scotiabank Economics team in Toronto. Responsibilities include applying macroeconomic analysis to the financial services industry in Canada and the United States, industry forecasting, analysis of funding, provisioning, and product line growth, and focus on payments system innovation, GenAI, and other emerging developments. Deliver publishing, presentations, and client service related to macroeconomic outlook.

- Apply sound macroeconomics to industry needs.
- Apply a wide range of tools, experience and judgement to analyze and forecast developments in major economies outside of Canada.
- Communicate insights to diverse audiences.
- Deliver clear, impactful economic commentary through reports, presentations, and media engagements.
- Prepare thought leadership pieces to strengthen Scotiabank’s brand.
- Foster a positive work environment by collaborating with the economics team.
- Promote advancement of the department by sharing information, best practices, and methodologies.
- Act as coach/mentor to other team members.
- Expand economic collaboration to bolster financial performance and advance strategic objectives.
- Drive a customer‑focused culture to deepen client relationships.
- Liaise with other departments to develop strategies and provide economic analyses and forecasts.
We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Graduate degree(s) in Economics; an MBA in Finance, CFA, or accounting designation would be additional assets. 5‑10 years related experience.
- Proven track record of economic analysis and/or publication experience.
- Strong working knowledge of economics, financial markets, and macroeconomic analysis.
- Solid understanding of fiscal, monetary, and structural policy landscape and its implications.
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, high‑quality work under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Excellent English‑language written and verbal communication skills, with strong organizational and presentation abilities.
