Position: Contract, Senior Financial Analyst (External Reporting) - 15 months

Expected Salary Range: $100943 - $126179 Annually

The salary range shown above reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.

The Contract, Senior Financial Analyst (SFA - 15 months) role provides accurate and timely financial analysis, insights and advice related to financial and business planning, forecasting and reporting. Acting as a strong senior business partner, the Contract, Senior Financial Analyst contributes to the overall success of the organization by driving effective results; change management and continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation and review of inputs into the consolidated financial statement note disclosures on a quarterly basis
  • Provides guidance on appropriate accounting treatment for complex accounting transactions and emerging accounting issues, including detailed documentation of accounting analysis and recommendation.
  • Performs research to fully understand the business issues, seeks information about client's underlying needs, beyond those initially expressed.
  • Develops a comprehensive process to review contracts and new business transactions in a timely manner, involving cross functional teams and other business units.
  • Discusses financial performance in terms of key value drivers of the business and clearly communicates the analysis behind the numbers.
  • Remains current and compliant with emerging IFRS and Accounting Procedures Handbook (APH) accounting and disclosure requirements and implementation of those accounting standard changes.
  • Prepares high risk, complex, and non-routine journal entries where there is no internal precedent. First pass review of financial activities prepared by Financial Analysts and students.
  • Provides reliable financial information, analysis and operational support related to electricity regulatory filings, tax provision reporting requirements and other internal management reporting requirements.
  • Implements accounting, organizational and regulatory policies and the associated internal control activities, including supporting external auditors.
  • Improves productivity in processes, which may include re-engineering current processes and finding automation and efficiencies through the use of IT tools.
  • Implements risk management and internal controls, including assessment and monitoring whether internal controls in place are adequately designed and operating effectively.
  • Tracks and monitors progress of key projects and initiatives to facilitate company-wide accountability.
  • Leads meetings/initiatives with business units and cross functional teams; influences others with respect to obtaining required inputs, timelines and achieving desired outcomes.
  • Performs ad hoc analysis, special projects and initiatives as needed.
  • REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Administration or related field.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Designation in Canada is required
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive financial analysis experience.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of complex accounting principles;
    International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Working experience with ERP systems, data analysis and reporting tools; database/data management concepts, specifically as it relates to SAP financial systems and Business Intelligence.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint and Word.
  • Experience with Workiva preferred.
  • Results oriented, adaptable and resourceful leader with a desire to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of data and summarize effectively to help drive decision making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
