Director of Finance And Accounting

$150,000-$160,000 base plus 15% bonus, RRSP contribution, benefits, and 4 weeks of vacation

My client is a boutique advisory firm that delivers sustainable business outcomes through technology. They are hiring a hands‑on Director of Finance to lead their finance function end to end. Reporting directly to the President and partnering with the Senior Leadership Team, you will own accounting, reporting, planning, controls, and financial operations. You will run the function as a one‑person department to start, with a clear path to building and leading a small team as the business grows.

Over time, this role is expected to expand in scope and can grow into a CFO position within two to three years.

• Lead the month‑end close process, including reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Manage accounts payable, vendor setup, approvals, and payment processing.
• Oversee invoicing, collections, and cash application while improving working capital routines.
• Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policies.
• Coordinate payroll processing with internal stakeholders and external providers.
• Ensure accurate project‑based revenue and cost tracking.
• Lead annual budgeting aligned to company priorities and maintain rolling forecasts tied to operating drivers.
• Build and manage cash flow forecast.
• Analyze pricing scenarios, margin impact, rate cards, and discount guardrails.
• Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and clear variance analysis.
• Produce monthly reporting packs with trend analysis and performance commentary.
• Develop and maintain dashboards that give leadership real‑time visibility into financial KPIs.
• Improve data flow from project setup to invoicing to revenue recognition to reduce manual work.
• Support tax filings, SR&ED filings, and compliance, coordinating with external advisors.
• Lead audit preparation and external information requests.
• Establish practical internal controls and approval workflows that protect the business without slowing it down.

• CPA and university degree.
• 5-10+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance.
• Direct ownership of month‑end close and financial reporting.
• Experience working in professional services environment.
• Experience running finance in a small company environment with limited support.
• Experience building budgets and forecasts tied to business drivers.
• Advanced spreadsheet skills and the ability to build clear financial models.
• Clear communication skills and comfort partnering with senior leaders.
• Ideally some experience with IFRS and US GAAP.
• Experience in a private equity‑backed business is nice to have but is not mandatory.
