What your day and week could look like

Aligned with the Repayment Servicing Team, the Pre-Litigation Recovery Specialist plays an essential role in managing high-risk charged-off accounts. This experienced collector focuses on establishing achievable repayment resolutions, negotiating final settlements, and preparing files for potential legal action when internal efforts are exhausted.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contacting defaulted account holders via phone, email, and text to negotiate repayment plans and settlements on bad debt deficiency balances to prevent the need for legal escalation.
  • Reviewing customer accounts to assess the viability of legal action, repossession, or further internal debt recovery efforts.
  • Preparing, auditing, and organizing files for external legal referral when voluntary repayment cannot be secured.
  • Collaborating with other departments, internal management, and external legal counsel or repossession agents to resolve outstanding debt issues.
  • Investigating and resolving discrepancies in payments and identifying reasons for non-payment.
  • Documenting all communication with customers and maintaining accurate records of collection and pre-litigation efforts.
  • Exercising proven strategies to minimize bad debt losses and maximize recovery rates.
  • Adhering to all relevant laws and regulations governing debt collection practices and legal proceedings.
  • Providing regular updates to management on the status of defaulted and legal-pending accounts.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to debt recovery.

What you bring:

  • Proven experience as a collector in a consumer lending environment (banking/financial services/auto lending), with a specific focus on pre-litigation or late-stage recovery.
  • Strong familiarity with the legal lifecycle of a charged-off account, including assessing assets and preparing files for legal escalation.
  • A passion to accept challenges and appreciate achieving our Team goals.
  • An ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with effective listening.
  • A detail-oriented personality with strong organizational skills.
  • Maturity and self-motivation; you set goals and establish a workplan to achieve those goals.
  • You like people! You want to achieve success both personally and help the Team.
  • Satisfaction in achieving a high degree of accuracy within a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Shaw Collections System is an asset.
  • Proficiency with lending software and Microsoft tools - Intermediate to advanced user experience with Excel, Word, and Outlook.
