JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a committed and dynamic individual to join our Public Affairs and Policy Team as a Policy Manager. Reporting to the Head of Public Affairs and Policy, the Policy Manager position is responsible for managing, coordinating, and drafting policy research projects, presentations and assignments that support OREA's policy, government relations and advocacy objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage and coordinate policy research projects and initiatives.
  • Draft impactful reports, presentations, papers, submissions and briefing notes.
  • Lead the development of briefing materials to support internal and external engagement, such as meetings of OREA committees, sector stakeholders or government officials.
  • Monitor and analyze policy developments including but not limited to government announcements, legislation, committees and policy consultations.
  • Study and interpret the general policy direction and programs of the provincial government and develop recommendations regarding specific policy/program options.
  • Research and synthesize real estate policy and program information, identify policy options, develop recommendations and evaluate potential impacts of policy decisions.
  • Manage and draft member communications and responses to inquiries.
  • Participate in industry events to promote the organization's advocacy position.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
  • Post-secondary credentials from a recognized university or college in social sciences, public policy, political science, economics, real estate, development or urban planning, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Three to five years of experience in policy, government relations, public affairs, housing, real estate or a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of provincial government policy development processes with a history of involvement in/or knowledge of government or politics. Experience working within government or at Queen's Park is an asset.
  • Adept at researching, interpreting and communicating quantitative and qualitative literature and identifying potential implications to the real estate industry.
  • Recognized ability to translate and communicate complex public policy in simple terms.
  • Ability to draft robust policy recommendations and write impactful narratives from data and supporting evidence.
  • Excellent communication skills including superior report-writing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize easily, learn quickly and independently exercise good judgment and initiative.
  • Personal initiative, ability to adapt to changing needs, ask questions and contribute effectively as part of a team.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
