Purpose
The Manager, Policy and Industry Affairs contributes to the overall success of Government Affairs team through research, monitoring, writing and advocacy to support to the goals, plans and initiatives of the team’s business strategies and objectives Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Conduct detailed research and analysis of complex business and public policy issues, concisely synthesizing large amounts of information and communicating summaries, positions and recommendations in simple, concrete terms.
Contribute to the development and response of Bank-wide public policy objectives, by working with internal stakeholders to identify and assess policy and regulatory trends and threats in countries with Bank operations.
Contribute to the development and execution of the Bank’s government affairs priorities by collaborating with internal stakeholders to track and assess legislative, regulatory, and public policy developments in jurisdictions where the Bank operates. Coordinate responses to government consultations and policy initiatives where required.
Monitor and assess emerging policy, regulatory, political, and industry developments relevant to the Bank, including legislative initiatives, regulator publications, consultation processes, industry reports, and stakeholder activities. Proactively identify and communicate key developments, risks, opportunities, and strategic implications to Government Affairs team members and internal stakeholders through timely briefings and analysis.
Manage relationships with the Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) and other industry associations, as required, and support senior executives and senior management in engagements with industry stakeholders, government officials, and related committees and forums.
Collaborate with team members in providing an integrated perspective: leading and developing briefing materials, policy analysis, research and integrated counsel that combines policy and political analysis.
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions and support on ensuring internal policies relating to Government Affairs is up to date and communicated.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
Champions a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
Contributes to the success of regulatory obligations where needed.
Leads and executes on behalf of senior management the implementation of the RCM program to assure that:
the RCM program is designed, implemented and maintained in a manner that is tailored to the needs of each business activity;
compliance policies, procedures and practices are adequate and appropriate to control regulatory compliance risk;
compliance policies, procedures and practices are regularly reviewed so that they remain applicable considering changing circumstances and regulatory compliance risks.

The role is based in Canada, and works extensively with others outside of Canada, and in other time zones.
The role operates under the direction of the Senior Manager, Industry Affairs and Public Policy. The incumbent works closely with the rest of the Government Affairs team and will regularly interact with various executives on their government affairs needs.
