Consider this exciting opportunity with the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT), an adjudicative tribunal that resolves disputes on land use planning, environmental and heritage protection, land valuation, land compensation, municipal finance and related matters.
We are seeking highly enthusiastic individuals with strong organization, analytical and communication skills to manage a high volume caseload of complex appeals and applications to support the land use planning system in Ontario.

About the job In this position, you will:
Review and analyze applications and appeals for compliance with the Tribunal's Rules of Practice and relevant statutory provisions
Interpret and apply the Tribunal's Rules and legislations to resolve complex and contentious issues
Liaise with parties to ensure each assigned case is processed in an accurate and efficient manner
Analyze case materials to recommend appropriate streaming of cases
Provide case analysis and briefings to the Chair, Registrar, Deputy Registrar and Tribunal members
Respond to inquiries from parties and the public related to the OLT's case management process and jurisdiction
Draft letters, email correspondence, briefing notes and issue notices of hearing and prepare orders in accordance with the Tribunal's practices, procedures, legislative requirements and performance targets
Manage a high volume of cases, many involving high profile community and media interest
Update and maintain information in the Tribunal's electronic case management system, maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the Tribunal's caseload statistics
Participate in various projects to support the Tribunal's strategic growth and modernization initiatives
What you bring to the team Land use planning and legislative knowledge You have:
demonstrated knowledge of and experience in land use planning and the roles and responsibilities of provincial and municipal government organizations in the land use planning process.
demonstrated knowledge and experience in interpreting and applying rules and legislations. In particular, you have knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures applicable to the Ontario Land Tribunal (e.g. the Planning Act, Development Charges Act, Expropriations Act, Municipal Act, Ontario Heritage Act, Environmental Protection Act, Niagara Escarpment Planning and Development Act, etc.)).
general knowledge of municipal administration and knowledge of case management in an administrative tribunal setting.
Communication, consultation and conflict resolution skills You have:
proven oral and written communication skills to explain complex and detailed information.
experience using interpersonal skills to interact with clients and resolve issues.
You can:
interpret and explain legislation and prepare briefing to senior management.
draft clear and concise briefing notes, letters and correspondence.
work collaboratively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
Analytical, organizational and computer skills You have:
proven organization and time management skills to effectively manage multiple files and cases and complete tasks on time in a fast paced, competing priorities environment.
analytical skills to investigate, analyze and synthesize information to prepare reports and effectively manage a heavy caseload.
demonstrated analytical skills to identify and analyze complex technical issues and make recommendations.
demonstrated experience and proficiency in using word processing, data analysis, and case management software and systems.
