Reporting to the Manager, Operating Room, the Anesthesia Assistant (AA), a regulated health care professional, is trained to provide anesthesia care to stable surgical patients under supervision and immediate availability of an anesthesiologist.
The AA will provide technical and clinical assistance to the anesthesiologist, including assistance in a block room and with inductions within the operating room. The scope of practice of the AA is defined by their own professional standards and by the scope of the supervising anesthesiologist. The anesthesiologist is responsible for delegating the tasks and responsibilities of the day to the AA.
Requirements- Baccalaureate degree in a related health discipline
- Certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant (CCAA)
- Member of a regulated health care profession, e.g., registered nursing, registered respiratory therapist, etc.
- Postgraduate diploma/certificate in the anesthesia assistant program from an accredited community college or university
