Registered Nurse - Women's General Forensic Unit

Part‑time, permanent Registered Nurse position in the Women’s General Forensic Unit of the Complex Care and Recovery Program.

Responsibilities
  • Provide client‑centered psychiatric and general nursing care for diverse populations.
  • Facilitate evidence‑based group and one‑to‑one programming.
  • Develop and implement forensic assessment plans and understand the forensic legal and mental health care systems.
  • Ensure the security and safety of the inpatient unit, practising in accordance with professional regulatory standards, CAMH policies and procedures, the CAMH Practice Model of Care and Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
  • Liaise with other CAMH services and community agencies, perform assessments and develop, implement and evaluate the inter‑professional plan of care for clients with a wide range of diagnoses.
  • Utilise critical thinking and a customer‑service approach to care, offering education, support and supervision to students.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and the research activities of the program.
Qualifications
  • Registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, severe and persistent mental illness, addiction issues, recovery‑oriented approaches, culturally competent care, trauma‑informed care and group facilitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to make behavioural observations, conduct physical and mental status assessments, and monitor a client’s response to pharmaceutical and care interventions.
  • Preference for candidates pursuing or holding a BScN and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.
  • Current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate.
  • Experience caring for individuals with mental illness and/or addiction issues.
  • Sound knowledge of crisis intervention, psychosocial rehabilitation, severe mental illness and schizophrenia.
  • Ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring management of disturbed behaviour.
  • Skills to contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages inter‑professional teamwork and complies with regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work with clients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.

This part‑time position requires day, evening, night, and weekend rotations and is located at the Queen Street Site.
