Role on Our Team

The Supervised Instructor therapist will work directly with children with autism and their families applying applied behaviour analysis (ABA) teaching procedures and interventions. Clinical supervision and guidance will be provided by a BCBA Clinical Supervisor. Opportunities for Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) or BCBA (Board Certified Behaviour Analysis) supervision and support will be provided.

Main Responsibilities
  • Responsible for implementing ABA strategies in a one-to-one setting in accordance to the client’s behavior plan.
  • Daily activities include:
    Work with multiple clients (age range): 2-18 years old, under the supervision of a Registered Behavior Analyst (RBA) and Supervised Senior Therapist.
  • Work with clients in a 1:1 format.
  • Assist the RBA with in-person assessments.
  • Complete various assessments needed for client programming (e.g., preference assessments, baseline assessments).
  • Use ABA Strategies and adhere to program write-up to teach various goals as per the client’s behavior plan.
  • Help to reduce client’s challenging behaviors (e.g., aggression, self-injurious behaviors, property destruction, sensory behaviors) by collecting data, using antecedent and consequent based strategies, utilizing appropriate SMG strategies and adhering to the client’s behavior support plan.
  • Meet with RBA and Supervised Senior therapist regularly re: client programming and provide updates about sessions, client’s progress, effectiveness of individual programs, challenging behaviours and revisions.
  • Prepare and organize the teaching environments and materials needed for teaching.
  • Responsible for maintaining the client’s binder.
  • Utilize sound clinical judgment.
  • Responsible for collecting data during each session. Responsible for tracking, and analysis, including graphing and summarizing information at the end of each sessions.
  • Help prepare any reports (e.g., discharge reports) or session notes.
  • Flag exceptional circumstances as well as the need for changes to the program plan with Supervised Senior therapist and RBA.
  • Address personal care requirements of the client during each session (e.g., helping with toileting, diaper changes, assisting with changing of clothes, feeding etc.).
  • Attend meetings with family and other service providers as required.
  • Provide parent training opportunities for parents as stated in client’s service contract (i.e. parent observing the session, modelling and feedback to parents).
  • Maintain regular communications with parents and family members as required – providing parent debrief (in-person, phone call or through written communication).
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients (e.g., sanitizing toys, assisting with clean up etc.).
  • Ensuring safety of clients by following SMG protocols, SAAAC health and safety protocols and adherence to SAAAC’s policies and procedures.
