Overview
The Registered Dietitian is an integral part of the inter professional team and provides collaborative, comprehensive and person‑centred care, and education conducive to behavior change and improved quality of life across the lifespan. The Registered Dietitian will deliver comprehensive nutritional therapy and education to clients for the management of cardiometabolic and bariatric care. The RD provides consultation and independently screens patients for nutritional intervention, collects and interprets patient health data for in-depth assessment, completes ongoing monitoring and reassessment in collaboration with patients, caregivers, and the health care team.
The successful candidate promotes self‑management to achieve individualized behavioural and treatment goals that reduce risks and optimize health outcomes. The Registered Dietitian will be an expert in medical nutrition therapy and will be specialized in the nutrition care of adult patients. The candidate will also participate in the education of dietetic and other students as applicable.
This position will also involve cross‑coverage within inpatient acute care, off‑site transitional care, and complex continuing care on occasion. The primary area of assignment will be the Bariatric Medicine Clinic within Michael Garron Hospital. The position may have additional responsibilities of assisting with coverage in the Ambulatory Care clinics and Inpatient units.
Education- University Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or recognized equivalent required.
- Registration in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario required.
- Registration with the Dietitians of Canada preferred.
- The successful candidate will have a minimum of 1 year practical and related experience.
- Experience working in an acute, hospital setting is preferred.
- Experience working with patients with metabolic conditions and bariatric conditions to optimize diet and weight before and after surgical intervention preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to provide collaboration and consultation with inter‑professional team and community resources.
- Demonstrated knowledge in person‑centred care approach and principles.
- Demonstrated ability to apply adult learning principles to patient and family education.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver education to various groups including other health professionals, students, patients/families, colleagues and community agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and work effectively in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of the interprofessional team.
- Experience providing patient/family education and counselling.
- Demonstrated initiative, innovative thinking, teamwork and ability to effectively prioritize work.
- Demonstrated application of evidence‑based practice.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development—Computer skills (Microsoft applications).
- Good work and attendance record required.
