Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy Services, the role of the full-time, permanent Advanced Practice Clinical Leader - Pharmacy (APCL - Pharmacy) is to standardize and optimize the clinical practice of pharmacists in order to deliver safe and evidence-based care to inpatients and outpatients at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). In addition, the APCL - Pharmacy provides leadership in ensuring pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are working to their full scopes of practice, in guiding best practice changes to comply with regulatory and accreditation standards, and in developing and adopting innovative practices.
The APCL - Pharmacy uses their expertise to advance the pharmaceutical care provided by pharmacists and trainees through clinical supervision and teaching, and provides leadership to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to ensure that all are working to their full scopes of practice. The APCL - Pharmacy provides guidance on clinical practice changes, and develop innovative practices to comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards.
The successful candidate will be expected to promote the highest quality pharmaceutical care, by teaching and mentoring pharmacists, pharmacy students and residents, and through scholarly activity in affiliation with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy.
As a member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team, the APCL - Pharmacy represents Pharmacy Services when liaising with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals. They share their clinical knowledge, skills and experience, and influence to improve medication therapy management through collaborative participation in departmental and organizational committees, subcommittees, working groups and more. Candidates for this position must have earned a Pharm
D (or entry to practice degree in pharmacy from an accredited university), with relevant postgraduate training or research experience. Candidates with an advanced clinical degree in pharmacy, research-based MSc or Masters in related field (eg. MHA, MPH) are preferred. A hospital pharmacy residency is also considered an asset. Candidates must have an active practice license, or have the qualifications to obtain a practice license (Part
A), in Ontario. Applicants must have a strong clinical knowledge base with current clinical practice experience in the mental health and addictions fields. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. The candidate will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements.
As a Registered Pharmacist with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP), the APCL - Pharmacy abides by applicable provincial and federal pieces of legislation and accompanying acts and regulations, and practices within the requirements of OCP, which includes OCP’s Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct, in their most current version. Furthermore, the APCL works to ensure that Clinical Pharmacists also work within the applicable legislative and regulatory frameworks.
