Orthopaedic Technologist Fracture Clinic
Providing leadership in the Fracture Clinic, the Orthopedic Technologist provides problem solving, mentoring, teaching, consultation and intervention. They are responsible for organizing workload and setting priorities to provide timely care in a high volume, rapid turnover environment and having advanced understanding of anatomical structures, devices and techniques.
Main Responsibilities Direct Patient Care- Independently fabricates, applies and removes casts, splints and bandages.
- Measuring and fitting patients for orthopedic devices and ambulatory aids
- Patient/family education in the care and proper use of casts, splints, braces etc.
- Applies critical thinking and clinical judgement in health, wound and skin assessments prior to rendering care such as cast application
- Assist with procedures, respond to telephone inquiries and complete timely documentation.
- Maintains good working order of equipment, manages inventory of supplies and makes recommendations for changes in materials etc.
- Completes workload measurement and participates in staff and hospital committees
- Collaborates with health professionals such as physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists to provide optimum patient care.
- Provides on-the-job instruction and demonstration of casting techniques to other health professionals, such as medical students, interns or residents.
- Participates in mandated professional development for membership in the Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists
- Serves as a preceptor for students.
- Current registration with the Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists as a Registered Orthopaedic Technologist required.
- Graduate of a Community College Orthopaedic Technology program as recognized by CSOT preferred.
- One year of recent related experience. Experience with pediatrics preferred.
- Experience fitting, adjusting and removing orthopaedic appliances and soft goods preferred.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Strong customer service skills with proven ability to correspond and provide information to patients and staff. Polite and efficient manner essential.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities;
Promotion of continuous quality improvement. - Demonstrates ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Contributes to a positive and productive work environment.
- Ability to articulate descriptions of orthopaedic conditions based on a basic understanding of anatomical structures and their relation to one another.
- Satisfactory attendance record.
