Role Overview

You will work with our Surgical Program and the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), ensuring accurate data capture and reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Complete health record audits using ACS NSQIP tools in accordance with ACS protocols.
  • Ensure accurate, complete, and timely data to support policy and procedure development.
  • Collect pre‑operative, operative, and post‑operative data components.
  • Evaluate data accuracy and completeness, including compliance with internal and external coding standards.
  • Demonstrate competency in CPT and ICD‑10 coding.
  • Collaborate with surgical subject‑matter experts on documentation and classification requirements.
  • Conduct patient and shared decision‑making interviews or surveys.
  • Produce and distribute routine reports to hospital stakeholders.
  • Support timely ACS NSQIP data submissions and related deadlines.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly NSQIP analytics reports.
  • Maintain privacy, confidentiality, and security of all patient and hospital information.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously while prioritizing competing demands.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, respect, integrity, and excellence in the workplace.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and build collaborative relationships.
  • Apply strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Completion of a diploma or degree in health sciences, health administration, epidemiology, information management, statistics, or related programs.
  • At least one year of related experience in a clinical setting (hospital surgery department, surgery clinic, clinical research, or medical records).
  • Certification with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) and current active membership (preferred).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and documentation systems.
  • Experience with CIHI data, CPT and ICD‑10 coding (preferred).
  • Clinical chart review and abstraction experience (required).
  • Basic statistical knowledge (preferred).
  • Commitment to continued professional development.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products (PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Word).
  • Strong organizational and detail‑oriented work habits.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive, cooperative working relationships with staff at all levels.
  • Ability to prioritize workload in a changing and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Proven satisfactory performance and attendance history.
