Residential Counsellor; Part-time
Jean Tweed is a leading, community-based organization that provides a supportive environment for women with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns. Recognizing the diversity of women's experience in today's society, our programs seek to address a range of issues in a woman's life that may contribute to substance use and gambling concerns.
Position PurposeThe Residential Counsellor is responsible for the overall safety of the residence and for creating and maintaining a safe and supportive environment for clients during their stay. This position includes supportive counselling, facilitation of evening activities, crisis intervention, conflict mediation, and facilitation of community meetings.
Rate of Pay$21.82 - $25.53
Part-time Positions (A) – 8‑hour shift- Schedule 1:
Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 am–4:30 pm & Monday and Tuesday, 4:00 pm–12:00 am - Schedule 2:
Tuesday‑Friday, 12:30 am–8:30 am

How will you help to get us there?- Conduct intake and assessment where designated
- Collaborate and follow up with clients with meeting requirements of residence
- Support clients/residents at the residence in carrying out their treatment plan, and assist with daily routines
- Monitor client relations/issues, ensuring that any crisis identified is addressed and assistance with conflict resolution is offered
- Manage the documentation and recording of information, including the record of case notes in the daily log if necessary
- Supervise and assist residents with any required medication where applicable
- Carry out medication protocols and administration where applicable
- Follow security protocols and address safety concerns as they arise
- Identify and follow up on maintenance issues when they arise
- Collaborate with supervisor to discuss job performance and establish professional goals
- Engage in ongoing staff development and personal learning as agreed to in performance reviews
- Maintain documentation of relevant client interactions and interventions, and contacts with collateral supports
- Monitor the progress of clients, prepare reports and letters as necessary
- Participate in staff meetings, team development and supervision meetings
- Collaborate with supervisor to discuss job performance and establish professional goals
- Engage in ongoing staff development and personal learning as agreed to in performance reviews
- Conduct job responsibilities with a commitment to harm reduction, trauma‑informed, women‑centred and anti‑oppressive practices
- Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Jean Tweed Treatment Centre
- Perform other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of The Jean Tweed Treatment Centre
- Maintain a client service orientation including learning about and addressing client needs and concerns

- College Diploma in Addictions and Mental Health or equivalent qualification
- A combination of 3 years of work experience in the field of Mental Health, Substance Use, and/or Supportive Housing
- Expertise in providing supportive counselling and case management to individuals who are experiencing or have experienced a complex history of mental health concerns, and substance use
- Working knowledge of best practices in mental health, substance use, harm reduction, trauma and the therapeutic relationship
- Working knowledge of psycho‑social rehabilitation and recovery principles
- Working knowledge of trauma‑informed practice, women‑centred principles and best practices for women and substance use
