Labs Medical Laboratory Services is seeking a Senior Medical Lab Technologist to join our team in Toronto, ON (100 Intl Blvd).

Your role will involve accurate and timely interpretive and diagnostic specimen testing and reporting. Through accuracy, quality, efficiency, and expediting test results, you will contribute to patient well-being and better health outcomes.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our Microbiology Department. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in microbiology techniques and a proven track record in leadership within a microbiology laboratory setting.

This is a full-time role with afternoon shifts suitable to the maintenance of a healthy work/life balance.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and conduct complex microbiological tests and analyses, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established standard operating procedures.
  • Supervise and mentor junior laboratory staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop, implement, and refine laboratory procedures, quality control measures, and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to interpret test results and offer expert recommendations.
  • Execute comprehensive verification and validation processes, including the systematic evaluation and assessment of new testing methodologies, equipment, and systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to maintenance schedules.
  • Manage inventory and order supplies to ensure the laboratory is adequately stocked.
  • Stay current with advancements in microbiology, new techniques and technologies, integrating them into laboratory practices.
  • Conduct a wide range of diagnostic and interpretive specimen testing.
  • Perform, interpret, and release results, while ensuring the confidentiality of patient information.
  • Collaborate with Lab Manager and Medical Scientific Team to set and implement achievable plans and work with the team to meet these priorities.
  • Participate in critical reviews of key indicators, incidents, audits, inspections, and improvement opportunities, leading to effective implementation of corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with the evaluation and implementation of recent technology.
  • Participate in problem solving in work organization and workflow.
Qualifications
  • College diploma or university degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • CMLTO registered.
  • At least 5 years of MLT experience or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills to relate with a wide variety of people.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge.
  • Problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and follow up on issues.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest standards of safety, patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment, while adhering to Life Labs standards of safety, accuracy and efficiency.
