Compensation: $155,000–$170,000 annually

Position Summary

The Assistant Health Services Administrator (AHSA) supports the Health Services Administrator (HSA) in the daily oversight and administration of the healthcare program within an assigned correctional facility. This position serves as a key operational partner to the HSA, assisting with staffing, compliance monitoring, financial controls, accreditation preparation, and cross‑functional coordination to ensure healthcare services are delivered effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with NCCHC standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations.

The AHSA assumes designated administrative responsibilities during the HSA’s absence and is expected to demonstrate strong leadership, operational judgment, and a commitment to quality healthcare delivery. This role is designed as a development pathway for professionals aspiring to Health Services Administrator leadership positions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operations & Program Administration

Assist the HSA in managing daily healthcare operations, including staffing coordination, workflow management, and resource allocation.

Prepare and distribute operational, statistical, and narrative reports as required by organizational leadership and contract requirements.

Monitor staffing patterns and coverage needs, identifying and addressing operational gaps.

Assist with payroll review, timekeeping accuracy, and labor management activities.

Maintain organized administrative records, contracts, policies, procedures, and correspondence.

Support operational initiatives designed to improve efficiency, quality, and patient care outcomes.

Compliance & Accreditation

Support ongoing compliance with NCCHC standards, ACA standards, state regulations, and applicable federal requirements.

Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating healthcare policies and procedures.

Coordinate accreditation readiness activities, including survey preparation, mock audits, and corrective action plan monitoring.

Conduct routine audits of administrative and clinical records to identify compliance concerns and improvement opportunities.

Monitor implementation of corrective actions and regulatory requirements.

Assist with monitoring healthcare budgets and operational expenditures.

Track budget performance and report variances to leadership.

Support contract compliance monitoring and vendor performance review activities.

Assist with invoice review, purchase order tracking, and financial reporting.

Promote cost‑effective resource utilization while maintaining quality patient care services.

Staffing & Human Resources Support

Assist with recruitment, onboarding, orientation, credentialing, and retention activities.

Support employee performance management processes in collaboration with Human Resources.

Assist in addressing staffing concerns, scheduling conflicts, and operational issues.

Support employee development initiatives, in‑service education, and training programs.

Promote employee engagement and a positive workplace culture.

Serve as a liaison between healthcare staff, facility administration, custody leadership, and CHP leadership teams.

Communicate effectively with operations, compliance, human resources, and clinical leadership.

Participate in leadership meetings, accreditation planning sessions, and staff meetings.

Represent the HSA during meetings and operational discussions when designated.

Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related field required.

Master’s degree preferred.

Licensure & Certifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license strongly preferred and may be required at some sites.

California sites requiring RN licensure must maintain an active California RN license.

Current BLS/CPR certification required.

Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of healthcare administration, healthcare operations, or related experience required.
