Overview
Our growing Etobicoke client, a leader in distribution, is looking for a Health & Safety Specialist to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4–5 years of related experience overseeing multiple sites.
Responsibilities- Take ownership of the implementation of the company’s Health and Safety Program and make recommendations to amend, revise, update, and modify from time to time as business changes.
- Provide overall H&S guidance, recommendations, and support to operational teams to ensure legal compliance.
- Maintain the company’s accreditation in the WSIB Health and Safety Excellence Program.
- Work collaboratively with the Transportation safety team on company Health & Safety programs and initiatives.
- Identify workplace safety hazards and develop ideas and solutions to correct promptly any deficiencies within our programs.
- Regularly inspect and evaluate the workplace to identify existing or potential hazards so they can be avoided, if not eliminated.
- Follow up and investigate all incidents/accidents and report findings to take corrective action.
- Facilitate worker orientations and arrange/source worker education/certification training where required.
- Maintain and secure all Health and Safety records and documentation.
- Ensure regular joint health and safety committee (JHSC) meetings are held in all facilities.
- Maintain and update H&S communication bulletin boards as per OHS regulations.
- Represent the company with external audit officials; e.g., MOL, etc.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with occupational health and safety management.
- Safety Certifications/Designations are an asset.
- Prior experience working in industrial facilities/settings (warehouse/logistics, manufacturing, etc.).
- In-depth understanding/knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety regulations.
- Outstanding communication skills.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues.
- Pro-active and strong organizational skills.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficient in MS Office and knowledge of data analysis.
- Valid Driver’s License required to drive to various facilities (all within 10 minutes of each other).
- Experience representing the WSIB Excellence Program in the organization.
- It is preferable if you have your CSRP or are working towards it.
Salary: $75,000–$80,000
