Dietary Aide - Casual
Location:
Extendicare Scarborough, Scarborough, Ontario. This position reports to the Dietary Manager and assists with food preparation and serving of meals.
Key responsibilities include serving food to residents according to individual diets, maintaining proper serving temperatures, assisting cooks with prep, cleaning, and operating dishwashers, participating in storage and labeling of supplies, adhering to safety and infection control policies, assembling nourishment carts, stocking kitchenettes, attending meetings and in-service education, and performing other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Observe time limits for meal serving.
- Maintain foods at proper serving temperature.
- Assist cooks in cleaning and preparing uncooked foods such as salads, vegetables, and fruits.
- Follow basic instructions in preparing simple foods such as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
- Clear plates and trays, load and operate the dishwasher.
- Clean pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
- Assist with daily detailed prep lists.
- Participate in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and leftovers.
- Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in facility meetings as assigned.
- Attend in-service education programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
- If enrolled, completion of the program within three (3) years of hire date.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy weights.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
- Previous dietary experience preferred (0–1 year) in an LTC home.
- Proficient in reading and writing English and understanding simple verbal and written instructions in English.
- Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS) status.
