WEEKEND PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKERS

Bargaining Unit Position

Mission Statement:

Homes First Society develops and provides affordable, stable housing and support services to break the cycle of homelessness for people with the fewest housing options.

Position Type: Part-time, Permanent

Location: Adelaide St West and Richmond St W

Hours of Work: (a) Saturdays and Sundays, 8am-4pm; and (b) Saturdays and Sundays, 12:30pm-8:30pm

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: $28.76 per hour (As per Collective Agreement)

This position assists clients who are housed within Homes First Society Meegwetch Place to maintain optimal health and mental health stability, while adhering to the mission statement and policies & procedures of Homes First Society.

Job Description:
  • Assist clients with residency, meals, room cleaning, grooming and hygiene, laundry, recreational and leisure activities and health monitoring
  • Arrange, remind and/or escort clients to medical, psychiatric, dental and diagnostic appointments and/or treatments
  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent time management skills
  • About to work independently and in inter-dependent teams
  • Update client files accordingly, keep accurate records and document daily information
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Personal Support Worker Certification or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and several years’ experience working with people with mental health issues.
  • Certificates in First Aid, CPR and Crisis Prevention
  • Ability to work shifts.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with the homeless population, diversity issues, anti-discrimination practices and systemic reasons for homelessness an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Certificate of Completion of Homelessness Learning Hub’s Harm Reduction for the Homelessness Sector considered an asset

Working in an environment where there may be smoke is required.

Working in a pet friendly environment.

The successful applicant must provide a criminal record check that is satisfactory to Homes First Society.
