Role Overview

Our client is a well-established healthcare organization in Toronto seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform laboratory testing, specimen analysis, and quality control procedures. The successful candidate will support accurate and timely diagnostic results while maintaining high standards of laboratory safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, receive, prepare, and process patient specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Perform routine and specialised tests using laboratory equipment and established procedures.
  • Analyse and verify test results and report abnormal findings according to protocols.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, test results, and patient documentation.
  • Perform quality control checks and ensure compliance with laboratory standards.
  • Identify equipment or testing issues and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and laboratory procedures at all times.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field.
  • Valid certification/registration as required to practise as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Ontario.
  • Experience in clinical laboratory testing and specimen processing preferred.
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures, quality control, and safety standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to operate laboratory instruments and technical equipment.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a healthcare team.

Good to Have

  • Experience in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, or transfusion medicine.
  • Experience working in a hospital, diagnostic laboratory, or healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Knowledge of Canadian laboratory accreditation and quality standards.
