The Occupational Therapist working in the LEAP Service delivers group-based pain self-management education to people living with pain and a neurological condition. Self-management skills taught include various pain management strategies, chair exercise, relaxation techniques, mindfulness meditation, pacing strategies and assertive communication skills. LEAP Service only accepts referrals from Toronto Rehab Brain and Spine Program and West Park Neuro Rehab. The primary populations served are acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke and multiple sclerosis.

The principal responsibilities include: conducting intake assessments to determine eligibility and treatment goals, and explain the services; co-facilitating online groups of 6-18 patients using Microsoft Teams; co-leading gentle guided group exercise including in-person hydrotherapy; conducting inpatient consults; and administrative tasks to support the running of group treatment. The occupational therapist will work closely with a team of occupational therapists and a physiotherapist.

• Conduct intake interviews with new clients and creates a service plan
• Co-facilitateonline groups, teaching pain self-management skills to groups of patients
• Co-leadin-person hydrotherapy group exercise programs
• Conductinpatient consults to introduce pain self-management ideas and services
• Participate in administrative tasks related to running group treatment programs such as processing requests for additional services
• Participate in program planning and evaluation as needed
• Supervise clinical students
• Documentas needed using Epic charting system
• Completion of a Master’s Degree in Science (Occupational Therapy) or recognized equivalent based on Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
• Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
• Member of Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) and/or Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (OSOT) is preferred
• Experience working with people with neurological conditions such as acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke and multiple sclerosis
