Role Overview
As a Workday Payroll Consultant at Kainos, you will work in a team to implement and configure enterprise‑scale Workday solutions for our global customer base, typically leading a project workstream. You will build relationships with customers, deliver solutions aligned with their needs, and ensure they are fit for purpose and commercially viable. You’ll provide excellent guidance, understand their business and requirements, and support junior members by sharing knowledge.

Responsibilities

Build complex payroll calculations and implement multiple positions and FEINs.

Lead a functional workstream on a prime implementation throughout the full project lifecycle.

Act as a role model and mentor junior consultants.

Support the sales process, including estimating work packages.

Implement improvements in tools and processes to help the practice.

Assist AMS with subject‑area questions and participate in PATT team discussions.

Travel to customer sites as required.

Commercial understanding of utilization within a services organization and the importance of these targets.

Able to rotate through various Workday delivery services.

Maintain a network of external contacts and widen your external network.

Minimum (essential) Requirements

At least 5 years of Workday Payroll implementation experience.

At least 3 years leading Workday Payroll implementation from E2E over the last 4 years.

Certification in at least one Workday Payroll country and one additional Workday module.

Ability to build complex payroll calculations.

Experience with multiple positions and implementing multiple FEINs.

Strong understanding of Workday Payroll and Canadian Payroll.

Experience with payroll regulatory requirements (tax, garnishments, common pay master), retirement benefits (401K, RRSP), payroll processing, unions/collective bargaining agreements, and payroll accounting.

Desired Skills

Excellent customer focus and ability to assess needs, build relationships, manage expectations, and go above and beyond.

Strong communicator capable of presenting to senior client audiences.

Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project & business dynamics.

Broad business and technology understanding; awareness of industry trends in HR, financials, or ERP/Payroll.

Ability to work to tight deadlines and make sensible decisions under pressure.

Strong consulting skills: presenting, leading workshops, demonstrating complex functionality.

Ability to become an acknowledged subject‑matter expert.

Workday HCM and Canadian Payroll certified (required).

Professional qualifications (e.g., CPP).

Experience in post‑deployment services.

People Management (if applicable)

Set and review goals for yourself and your team aligned to Kainos and Workday BU.

Provide support to achieve goals.

Review and refine goals for relevance.

Provide performance feedback.

Conduct 1:1 monthly and/or project completion feedback meetings.

Provide regular feedback in Workday.

Complete End‑of‑Year reviews and agree outcomes.

Identify training and support for team development.

Pursue and support career paths and progression.

Review weekly workload forecasting, staff allocations, and timesheet checks.

Participate in recruitment/interviews.

Review attrition and retention metrics.
