We’re looking for aSenior Infrastructure Network Engineerto join our Infrastructure team and play a pivotal role in designing, scaling, and evolving the systems that power Lyft’s entire engineering platform.
As a senior-level engineer, you will solve deeply complex infrastructure challenges, and deliver solutions that are reliable, scalable, and secure. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on impact, collaboration, and working at scale.
You’ll partner with teams across Lyft to ensure our foundational network infrastructure supports high performance, reliability, and developer velocity.
Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and maintain Lyft’sservice mesh and edge routingusing
Envoy Proxyand Kubernetes on AWS, ensuring secure and reliable service-to-service communicationScale and operate Lyft’sKubernetes networking stack, including
Ingress controllers, CNI plugins, andservice discovery, to support high-availability microservicesDevelop and optimizeload balancing algorithms and traffic policiesacrosscontrol and data planesto improve latency, resiliency, and cost efficiencyBuild and maintainobservability infrastructure(e.g.,Prometheus, Open Telemetry, Grafana, Datadog) to enable real-time visibility and incident responseLead incident investigation and resolution forproduction network issues, debugging across layers including
Kubernetes, VPC networking, service mesh, andL4/L7 traffic flowExperience:
Bachelor’s degreein Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience5+ years of hands-on experienceoperating
Kubernetes in productionand working incloud environmentssuch asAWSorGCPProficiency in Python and/or Go (Golang) preferred; experience working with service-oriented architecture and writing clean, efficient, and testable codeProficient in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, and experienced in automating deployments in large-scale environmentsStrong background in Linux systems, networking, DNS, load balancing, and protocols such asHTTP, HTTPS, and gRPCProven experience designing or operatingdistributed network management systems, includingservice mesh or service proxies(e.g.,Envoy, Istio, NGINX, Cilium)Deep understanding ofAWS networking concepts, including
VPCs, subnets, NAT gateways, NLBs, andsecurity groupsDemonstrated ability todebug complex, multi-layer infrastructure issuesand leadincident responseacross highly available, large-scale systemsBenefits:
