The Managing Director, Enterprise Architecture and Emerging Technology is accountable for ensuring that Teachers’ has a forward‑looking architecture, technology strategy and roadmap that is fully aligned with our current state, strategic direction and business objectives. This includes identifying opportunities and gaps in enterprise architecture required to achieve those objectives, with clear traceability to measurable business outcomes. In addition, this role serves as a central point for assessing emerging technologies through defined frameworks, partnerships, and experimentation.

The role is critical to future‑proofing Teachers’ technology environment while ensuring adoption is responsible, secure, and value‑driven. As a senior member of the Technology Services leadership team, this role also contributes to the broader mandate of talent, culture, and innovation within the division.

Who You’ll Work With

Reporting to the Senior Managing Director, Technology Services, you will lead the Enterprise Architecture and Emerging Technology team. You will also partner closely with Business Technology and AI heads, other Technology Services functions, senior business leaders, and external innovation ecosystems.

What You’ll Do
  • Ensure that current and planned enterprise and solution architectures, technology investments, and roadmaps are aligned with business priorities and long‑term corporate strategy.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and support to team members while creating an environment of transparency, collaboration, and ongoing professional development.
  • Recommend innovative and pragmatic solutions aligned with Teachers’ enterprise architecture strategy that enable business capabilities and maximize value‑for‑money.
  • Partner with Business Technology heads, other Technology Service functions, and business leaders to create integrated technology and solution roadmaps that are aligned with architecture and emerging technology direction.
  • Establish, lead, and continually enhance architecture principles, standards, and governance forums, ensuring adoption across all technology domains.
  • Lead capability, vendor, security, and legal assessments, ensuring clear decision frameworks are in place for senior leadership.
  • Provide oversight to solution architecture practices, ensuring alignment, scalability, and sustainability of technology design decisions.
  • Research, evaluate, and monitor industry trends, scouting emerging technologies with potential to drive business value, while working with risk, legal, and cybersecurity to ensure adoption is responsible and compliant.
  • Define and report key metrics for architecture maturity, innovation adoption, and emerging technology ROI.
  • Serve as a visible external ambassador for Teachers’ in architecture, innovation, and emerging technology forums, strengthening our profile as an employer of choice in Toronto and beyond.
  • Provide leadership and management of employees by fostering talent development, succession planning, and selective recruitment of new high‑performing talent, creating an environment where top‑tier technical professionals want to work.
What You’ll Need
  • 15+ years’ experience in IT management and leadership with demonstrated leadership and management experience, and ability to coach and develop a high‑performing team.
  • 10+ years’ experience in enterprise architecture leadership, delivering and supporting architecture and technology roadmaps.
  • Experience in recognized architecture frameworks and business/technology transformation.
  • Expert knowledge in emerging technologies and innovation topics.
  • Sound business and technical acumen, with demonstrated agility in learning and ability to quickly become comfortable with unfamiliar businesses areas or technologies.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to simplify complex technical concepts into business outcome–focused narratives.
  • Awareness of risk, compliance, and ethical considerations in adopting new technologies (e.g., AI, data, automation).
  • University Degree or equivalent in Computer Systems, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience building and/or enabling innovation frameworks preferred.
