Int. Data Governance Analyst with MS Purview, Collibra and Databricks experience to support data cataloguing activities and validate data classifications for our insurance client -

Role Overview
The Data Governance Analyst will support the design, implementation, and ongoing management of the enterprise data governance framework, with a strong focus on data cataloguing, metadata management, and business glossary development. This role works closely with business and technical stakeholders to ensure data assets are well-defined, classified, discoverable, and aligned with organizational data standards and policies.
Responsibilities
- Support data cataloguing activities using Microsoft Purview Data Catalog, including onboarding, metadata enrichment, and classification review.
- Develop and maintain business and technical metadata, including business glossary terms, data element definitions, and operational metadata.
- Apply and validate data classifications, sensitivity labels, and criticality indicators in alignment with data governance, privacy, and information handling standards.
- Align data elements to the enterprise information model, including personal and sensitive information domains.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify data definitions, and resolve data-related ambiguities.
- Conduct metadata analysis and tagging to improve data discoverability and usability across the organization.
- Monitor, test, and validate catalog functionality and metadata quality across environments.
- Support proof-of-concept and continuous improvement initiatives related to data governance tooling and processes.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
Must Haves:
- Solid understanding of data governance principles,
metadata management
, and data cataloguing best practices.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview or other data governance platforms such as Collibra or Informatica.
- Experience with
metadata analysis
, tagging, and classification frameworks.
- Familiarity with data privacy concepts
, information classification, and data handling standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through ambiguous information.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft tools (e.g., Excel) and basic SQL; experience using Databricks is an asset.
- Must be Protected-B Clearance ready, obtained from the RCMP - Requires 5 years in Canada
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting data governance operating models or data quality initiatives.
- Familiarity with regex or scripting to support metadata standardization and automation.
- Experience working in regulated environments or with privacy-sensitive data.
- Experience in financial services and insurance
