Role Overview

Provide functional and data support for key forestry and GIS systems including ArcGIS, SIMS, FVS, and Salesforce. This role combines advanced SQL expertise, geospatial data analysis, and business analysis to ensure high-quality data, smooth system operations, and effective Agile delivery.

Core Responsibilities
  • Application & Data Support
    • Support and enhance ArcGIS, SIMS, FVS, and related forestry systems.
    • Troubleshoot issues using advanced SQL across operational and geospatial databases.
    • Ensure accuracy of spatial layers, forest inventory data, stand metrics, and appraisal inputs.
    • Manage backlog items, enhancements, and production incidents.
  • Advanced SQL & Data Analysis
    • Write complex SQL queries (joins, window functions, geospatial queries, recursive logic).
    • Validate data flows between GIS, inventory, modeling, and operational systems.
    • Perform data reconciliation, root‑cause analysis, and support ETL troubleshooting.
    • Optimize query performance and analyze large/complex datasets.
  • Forestry & GIS Domain Knowledge
    • Understand forestry lifecycle:
      Inventory → Modeling → Planning → Harvest → Appraisal → Regeneration.
    • Translate forestry workflows and silviculture requirements into system and data needs.
    • Collaborate with foresters, GIS analysts, and appraisal teams.
  • Business Analysis
    • Convert business needs into user stories, acceptance criteria, and process flows.
    • Document data flows and system integrations across GIS and forestry platforms.
    • Conduct gap analysis and support solution design.
  • Agile Delivery
    • Support Scrum ceremonies and backlog refinement.
    • Assist with PI planning readiness, dependencies, risks, and team capacity inputs.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Use SQL to validate GIS data, inventory records, and model outputs.
    • Support UAT with a focus on data integrity and system interactions.
Required Experience
  • Technical
    • Expert-level SQL (must pass advanced SQL assessment).
    • Hands‑on with ArcGIS Online/Pro/Enterprise.
    • Experience with SIMS, FVS, or similar forestry/GIS systems.
    • Familiarity with relational and geospatial databases (Postgres/PostGIS, SQL Server).
    • Salesforce basics (workflows, validation rules, reports).
  • Domain
    • 5–10+ years in forestry, natural resources, GIS, or similar data‑heavy BA roles.
    • Strong understanding of forest operations, stand metrics, spatial layers, and appraisal concepts.
  • Delivery
    • Experience in Agile teams (Scrum or SAFe).
    • Proficiency with Jira or Azure Dev Ops.
Preferred Skills
  • Esri Model Builder, Arcade, or Arc Py scripting.
  • Experience with field data tools (Field Maps, Survey
    123).
  • Ability to simplify complex data issues for nontechnical users.
Compensation

CAD 100,000 to CAD 110,000 +/– and this position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
