Performance Test Lead - People Soft, Mainframe

4 Days onsite - Toronto

Project Context:
We need an experienced Performance Test Lead Engineer for Enterprise General Ledger (eGL) platform which encompasses both frontend and backend components. The front-end is People Soft Application and back-end is JCL, COBOL running on Mainframe. The current database is DB2 (Z/OS). The eGL platform is going thourgh a change as our client needs to exit out of DB2 (ZOS) and remove People Soft package dependency from DB2.

The target state architecture would have People Soft integration with Oracle. DB2 (Z/OS) will still exist but won’t interact with People Soft Application (Front-End). There will be data exchange/replication between DB2 and Oracle.

Required Experience:

  • 12+ years in IT and Financial Services with a strong focus on Performance Engineering and Testing.
  • 10+ years designing and implementing Performance Test Strategies for enterprise applications.
  • Hands-on experience with Load Runner and JMeter for frontend, backend, and interface performance testing.
  • Expertise in measuring performance of data exchange and replication interfaces between heterogeneous systems (e.g., DB2 and Oracle) including:
    • Validating data transfer latency, throughput, and consistency.
    • Designing tests for ETL processes, replication jobs, and batch data movement.
    • Monitoring network and middleware performance during data exchange.
  • Strong knowledge of People Soft Application performance tuning and Mainframe (JCL, COBOL) batch optimization.
  • Proficiency in SQL performance tuning for DB2 and Oracle databases.
  • Provide recommendations for tuning system components for better throughput and response times.
  • Leverage experience in Banking/Finance systems and General Ledger (GL) processes to ensure performance testing aligns with business-critical operations.

Responsibilities:

Performance Testing Strategy:

  • Design and implement performance strategy for online applications and mainframe batch processes.
  • Define performance benchmarks and SLAs in collaboration with stakeholders.

Execution & Analysis:

  • Conduct load, stress, and endurance testing for online screens, batch programs, and data replication jobs.
  • Simulate real-world workloads to validate system stability and responsiveness.
  • Analyze test results to identify performance bottlenecks in application, database, and data exchange layers.
  • Write and execute complex SQL queries (e.g., SELECT, JOIN, aggregate functions) to validate data integrity during performance tests.
  • Help optimizing SQL queries and database interactions to improve system performance.
  • Analyze database performance metrics and recommend tuning strategies.

Optimization:

  • Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to resolve performance issues and optimize application code, database queries, and batch job scheduling.

Collaboration & Reporting:

  • Work with development, infrastructure, and DBA teams to resolve performance issues in People Soft, mainframe jobs, and replication processes.
  • Recommend tuning strategies for application code, database queries, and batch job scheduling.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Prepare detailed performance reports highlighting application and interface performance metrics.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance performance testing methodologies, tools, and automation frameworks.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends in performance engineering and data replication technologies.

Preferred

Skills:

  • Experience with JMeter and Load Runner or other industry leading application performance management tools.
  • Experience with data replication tools (e.g., Golden Gate, CDC solutions).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD integration for performance testing.
  • Strong understanding of banking/finance domain processes, especially General Ledger (GL).
