Senior Security Engineer

Location:

Hybrid – Downtown Toronto (4 days/week in office)
Type:  Full-time | Permanent
Compensation:  $160–200K CAD base + meaningful early-stage equity
We’re partnering with a fast-growing AI SaaS startup building a next-generation developer platform for engineers in a highly technical, regulated domain. The product delivers step-function productivity gains through AI-native workflows and deep integration with high-performance systems.
They’re hiring a Senior Security Engineer to build and scale the security function from the ground up. The platform handles extremely sensitive data across product, models, and cloud infrastructure, so security is core to the business, not an afterthought.
This role sits at the center of trust and ownership, with responsibility across cloud, product, compliance, and operations, helping ensure the company meets enterprise-grade expectations as it scales (including SOC
2).
What You’ll Do   Design, implement, and maintain security controls across AWS and Kubernetes
Own cloud security fundamentals including IAM, network security, and secrets management
Lead security architecture reviews for new services and infrastructure changes
Build and operationalize incident response playbooks and runbooks
Lead investigations, containment, and post-incident reviews
Build detection and monitoring across infrastructure and applications
Implement security guardrails across CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud environments
Partner closely with engineering and leadership to raise the security bar without slowing velocity
What We’re Looking For   4+ years of hands-on security engineering experience
Strong cloud security architecture background (AWS preferred)
Solid Kubernetes and identity/security fundamentals (IAM)
Experience leading incident investigations and building detection capabilities
Experience building security tooling and guardrails for engineering teams
Strong communication skills and ability to influence across product and engineering
Bonus Points   

Experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar frameworks
Startup experience (high ownership, fast pace, build-from-zero mindset)
Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or Type Script

Experience with corporate security (endpoint protection, SSO/MFA, identity management)
