Business Systems Analyst – Payments & Data Engineering
Location:
Toronto - 4 days WFO
Job Summary
We are seeking a Business Systems Analyst (BSA) with a strong background in data engineering and payments domain expertise, including MT (SWIFT) and MX (ISO 20022) messaging standards. The ideal candidate will bridge business needs with technical solutions, optimizing payment systems, data pipelines, and compliance processes. This role requires hands-on experience in data transformation, payments infrastructure, and regulatory alignment.
Key Responsibilities
• Payments Systems Analysis:
o Analyze and document business requirements for payment processing systems (e.g., wire transfers, cross-border payments).
o Ensure compliance with SWIFT MT, ISO 20022 (MX), and other messaging standards.
o Troubleshoot payment failures and optimize transaction workflows.
• Data Engineering & Integration:
o Design and implement data pipelines to support payment analytics, reporting, and regulatory needs (e.g., AML/BSA compliance).
o Work with structured/unstructured data (SQL, No
SQL) and ETL/ELT processes.
o Collaborate with data architects to ensure scalable, secure data solutions.
• System Design
o Translate business requirements into functional specifications for payment and data systems.
• Stakeholder
Collaboration:
o Partner with business units (Payments, Compliance, Operations) and IT teams to align on solutions.
o Provide training and documentation for end-users and technical teams.
• Regulatory & Compliance Alignment:
o Ensure systems adhere to payment regulations (e.g., SWIFT gpi, OSFI, FinCEN).
o Support audit requests and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications & Requirements
•
Experience:
8+ years as a Business Systems Analyst, with:
o 4+ years in payments domain (SWIFT MT, ISO 20022 MX, payment hubs).
o 4+ years in data engineering (SQL, Python, ETL tools like Informatica/Talend).
• Technical
Skills:
o Proficiency in payment messaging standards (SWIFT MT and MX).
o
Experience with data warehousing (Snowflake, Redshift) and big data tools (Spark, Hadoop).
o Knowledge of APIs, microservices, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
• Business Acumen:
Strong understanding of financial services, payment lifecycles, and compliance (e.g., AML, sanctions screening).
• Certifications (Preferred): CSP (Certified SWIFT Professional), ISO 20022 accreditation, or data engineering certifications.
