We are seeking an experienced Data Catalog & Governance Consultant to support the implementation and operationalization of an Atlan Data Catalog
. The consultant will be responsible for standing up business processes, onboarding multiple business teams, and enabling self-service data discovery, governance, and compliance through effective metadata management and automation.
This role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, IT teams, and vendors to ensure high-quality, secure, and well-governed data assets across the organization.
Key ResponsibilitiesData Catalog & Metadata Management
Enrich and manage metadata using automation features to support self-service analytics and compliance use cases.
Document, organize, and maintain data assets to improve discoverability and understanding across business teams.
Develop and implement processes to update, govern, and sustain the data catalog over time.
Configure the data catalog application to meet business user needs.
Establish and monitor data governance controls to ensure data completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
Actively execute data governance best practices and contribute to stewardship standards.
Proactively validate data using exception handling tools and procedures.
Contribute to the design and implementation of data quality checks and controls.
Build and customize workflows within Atlan as required.
Support integration of data quality tools (e.g., Precisely DQ+) with the data catalog.
Work with IT and platform specialists to ensure data feeds, reference data, and security configurations meet enterprise data standards.
Conduct root cause analysis for data and catalog-related issues and recommend practical solutions.
Participate across all phases of the implementation lifecycle, including design, build, test, and rollout.
Where custom functionality or reporting is required, collaborate with IT teams by:
Assisting with functional specifications
Defining test cases
Performing user acceptance testing
Supporting sign-off activities
Document operational processes, data flows, and control frameworks.
Develop strong working relationships with business, operational, IT, audit, and vendor teams.
Act as a subject matter expert for data governance, cataloging, and related system initiatives.
Work cross-functionally as a collaborative team player to ensure business users have timely, accurate, and complete data.
Hands-on experience implementing or operating Atlan Data Catalog
.Strong background in data governance, metadata management, and data quality
.Experience integrating data quality tools with enterprise data platforms.
Ability to translate business requirements into catalog configurations and workflows.
Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
Experience working in complex, cross-functional enterprise environments.
Experience supporting investment, financial services, or regulated data environments.
Familiarity with enterprise data standards, stewardship models, and audit requirements
3-4 years of experience working in data, analytics, engineering, or a related field.
○ Experience with building or managing a data pipeline in production. Familiar with data SLOs, validation, and pipeline health best practices. ○ Experience in migration from large monolith tables to domain-specific entities derived from microservices. Technical Proficiency: ○ Highly proficient in SQL, Tableau, Qlik (Strong Preference).
○ Experience with programming languages including R or Python. ○ Strong proficiency in data tools such as Databricks, dbt, and cloud technologies such as AWS and GCP. Conceptual Understanding: ○ Solid understanding of normalization, schema evolution, and transitive dependencies. ○ Familiarity with data handling concepts (Loading and Transforming Data).
Location:
Toronto CA Hybrid, onsite 3 days/week normal week is Tuesday and Thursdays on site with one day flex.
