Role Overview
The Linux System Administrator will provide hands‑on production support for client Linux servers. This is an hourly engagement capped at up to 20 hours per month, billed strictly based on actual client support hours. The role requires availability during Canada EST business hours and flexibility for after hours support based on client needs. AWS cloud exposure is considered an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, maintain, and patch Linux servers (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu).
Ensure CRS servers meet operational and security standards; perform routine health checks.
Configure and manage mount points, file systems, and disk utilization.
Establish and maintain local repositories; manage OS patching and package deployments.
Configure and administer web servers; optimize service performance and availability.
Implement SSL certificates, server/disk encryption, and Linux hardening best practices.
Administer users, permissions, sudo access, and access controls.
Support data migrations with minimal disruption and ensure data integrity.
Collaborate with backup teams to implement and test backup/recovery strategies.
Monitor system health and performance; proactively resolve incidents to minimize downtime.
Support capacity planning and scalability initiatives.
Provide technical support to application teams during deployments and troubleshooting.
Maintain operational documentation and runbooks.
Availability & Engagement Model
Part‑time contractor role limited up to 20 hours per month
Hourly billing applies strictly to actual client support hours.
Primary working window aligned to Canada EST (6:30 PM – 2:30 AM IST).
Must be available during EST business hours and for after‑hours support as required by the client.
On‑demand availability for production issues and maintenance activities is mandatory.
Required Qualifications .
4–7 years of hands‑on Linux System Administration experience.
Strong knowledge of Linux OS, file systems, permissions, networking, and troubleshooting.
Experience with SSL, encryption, backups, and monitoring tools.
Proven ability to support production environments independently.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Added Advantage (Nice to Have)
Exposure to AWS Cloud (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, Security Groups).
Experience supporting hybrid (on‑prem + cloud) environments.
Familiarity with cloud backups, snapshots, and basic cost optimization.
