We're seeking a dynamic Disaster Recovery Manager to lead the strategy that keeps our business running through the unexpected. You will develop, implement, and manage disaster recovery plans to ensure continuity of critical operations during disruptions.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in disaster recovery planning, risk assessment, and business continuity management. You will collaborate closely with IT teams, business units, and senior management to identify vulnerabilities, establish recovery objectives, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously. We are looking for someone proactive, detail‑oriented, and capable of working effectively under pressure during crisis situations. Your role will be critical in safeguarding the organization's assets, reputation, and operational continuity. You will also be expected to stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in disaster recovery and business continuity management.
Key Responsibilities- Risk Assessment and Business Impact Analysis
- Responsible for conducting and reviewing the outcomes of Application Business Impact Analysis (ABIA) and aligning the Disaster Recovery framework, strategy and plans to support business needs.
- Working closely with Business Continuity Teams, responsible for risk assessments and business impact analyses to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities for IT business continuity, potential impact, likelihood and identifying the mitigation for these risks.
- Developing and Implementing Disaster Recovery Plans
- Manage and maintain the overall IT Disaster Recovery program
- Manage and maintain the overall IT Disaster Recovery program, including DR Policy, DR Guidelines, DR Governance and Change Management.
- Responsible for planning, setup, rollout, testing and maintenance of the IT Disaster Recovery plans.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery documentation, including templates, detailed recovery plans, procedures, and checklists.
- Responsible for maintaining the critical asset list of IT services, applications, business owners, divisional DR leads, and suppliers.
- Responsible for coordinating and leading disaster recovery exercises and tests to validate the effectiveness of recovery strategies and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure that all disaster recovery plans are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated effectively across the organization.
- Training and Education
- Responsible for educating staff on disaster recovery procedures and their roles during an incident.
- Develop and maintain DR Training Courses, available to all staff through the online portal.
- Maintain IT DR Page on City’s internal website.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Responsible for building and maintaining strong positive working relationships with colleagues across IT, business stakeholders, Divisional DR leads, and suppliers to ensure effective and efficient ways of working.
- Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers to ensure their disaster recovery capabilities align with organizational requirements.
- Responsible for consulting with owners and support teams to define, develop, coordinate, and manage disaster recovery plans.
- Work with the Business Continuity Management (BCM), Major Incidence Management (MIM) Group, Chief Information Security Office (CISO), Toronto Emergency Management (TEM), and project stakeholders on a continual basis to minimize corporate risk, review IT DR policy and guidelines.
