Job Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer who can deliver end-to-end, production-grade Finance reporting solutions that go beyond standard report development. This role is heavily focused on backend Power BI expertise, including data modelling, DAX development, performance optimization, and scalable solution design. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on technical professional who can translate complex business problems into practical, scalable reporting solutions that perform effectively in production environments.

This is not a front‑end reporting role, and candidates whose experience is primarily focused on report visuals without strong backend modelling expertise will not be a fit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement robust Power BI datasets and semantic models to support Finance reporting, forecasting, and planning
  • Develop advanced DAX calculations for complex financial reporting requirements, including variance analysis, allocations, forecasting, and time intelligence
  • Build scalable and reusable reporting solutions aligned with single source of truth principles
  • Integrate and transform data from ERP systems, Excel files, and enterprise data platforms
  • Translate ambiguous or evolving Finance requirements into clear and scalable technical solutions
  • Assess and identify whether requests are defects, enhancements, or new solution capabilities
  • Provide practical solution guidance during business and stakeholder discussions
  • Deliver reliable, production-ready reporting solutions that perform efficiently under real business usage conditions
  • Optimize model performance, refresh efficiency, and overall report usability
  • Troubleshoot data quality issues, model design gaps, and performance bottlenecks
  • Stay current with Microsoft Power BI platform enhancements and apply new capabilities to improve delivery quality
  • Participate in business discussions, validation activities, user acceptance testing (UAT), and release readiness support as required
Qualifications
  • Advanced hands‑on experience with Power BI, with strong expertise in data modelling, semantic model design, and DAX development
  • Proven ability to design and deliver scalable solutions for complex business and Finance reporting requirements
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills across data, model design, and performance optimization
  • Experience working with large datasets and multiple enterprise data sources, including ERP systems and Excel‑based reporting
  • Demonstrated experience delivering end‑to‑end, production‑grade Power BI solutions
  • Strong backend development mindset with a focus on architecture, scalability, and data modelling rather than report visuals alone
  • Ability to design models that support multiple reporting and analytical use cases
  • Working knowledge of Finance reporting processes, including month‑end reporting, forecasting, and budgeting
  • Strong ability to translate business challenges into effective technical solutions
  • Comfortable collaborating with both business and technical stakeholders
  • Strong ownership mentality with a focus on quality, accountability, and delivery outcomes
  • Actively stays current with Power BI advancements and applies new features and capabilities to improve solution quality
  • Experience with Azure Databricks and DBSQL for data exploration, validation, and understanding data transformations considered an asset
  • Strong SQL skills for querying, validating, and preparing data for reporting solutions
  • Familiarity with enterprise data platforms and data pipelines supporting Power BI semantic models is preferred
  • Ability to trace data from ingestion through transformation and reporting layers is considered an asset
