Position: Database Administrator(Db2)

Overview

A DB2 LUW Administrator is responsible for managing IBM DB2 databases on distributed platforms (Linux, Unix, Windows). The role focuses on database installation, maintenance, performance optimization, and ensuring high availability and security of database systems.

Required Skills Technical Skills
  • Strong experience with IBM DB2 LUW (KUW)
  • Hands‑on experience with:
    • Linux/Unix environments
    • DB2 tools (db2pd, db2top, EXPLAIN)
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with cloud environments (AWS/Azure)
  • Exposure to other RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Knowledge of automation and Dev Ops tool
Experience
  • 8+ years of DB2 LUW administration experience
  • Problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong analytical thinking
  • Ability to work in production support environments
  • Good communication and teamwork
Key Responsibilities Database Administration
  • Install, configure, and maintain DB2 LUW databases
  • Create and manage instances, databases, table spaces, and schemas
  • Perform database upgrades, patches, and migrations
  • Manage storage, space allocation, and capacity planning
Performance Management
  • Monitor and analyze database performance
  • Tune SQL queries, indexing strategies, and database configurations
  • Optimize memory usage, buffer pools, and workload management
  • Troubleshoot locking, deadlocks, and slow queries
Backup & Recovery
  • Configure and manage backup strategies (offline/online backups)
  • Perform restores and point‑in‑time recovery (PITR)
  • Ensure proper archival logging and recoverability
High Availability (HA) & DR
  • Implement and manage HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery)
  • Configure failover, replication, and standby databases
  • Support disaster recovery drills and testing
Security & Access Management
  • Manage users, roles, and permissions
  • Implement DB security policies and encryption
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements
Monitoring & Troubleshooting
  • Monitor database health and system logs
  • Resolve incidents, outages, and performance issues
  • Perform root cause analysis and preventive actions
Automation & Scripting
  • Automate routine DBA tasks such as backups and monitoring
  • Use scheduling tools like cron for maintenance jobs
