Senior Report Developer (Power BI)
Duration: 243–250 Days
Location: Onsite (5 Days/Week)
Hours: 7.25 hours/day between 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Client: Ontario Public Sector (OPS)
The Senior Report Developer will support the migration of approximately 270 operational reports from legacy court systems to the new Court Digital Transformation (CDT) solution. The resource will assess existing reports, recommend modernization opportunities, and redesign, develop, test, and implement reports using Power BI Desktop and Power BI Report Builder while ensuring compliance with OPS standards, accessibility requirements, and reporting best practices.
Key Responsibilities Report Assessment & Migration- Analyze existing operational reports and reporting requirements.
- Conduct reporting needs assessments with business stakeholders.
- Evaluate report functionality and determine migration approach.
- Modernize legacy reports where appropriate.
- Migrate reports to:
- Power BI Desktop
- Power BI Report Builder
- CDT standard reporting solutions
- Design and develop Power BI reports and dashboards.
- Create and optimize Power BI data models.
- Develop DAX calculations, measures, and business logic.
- Write and optimize SQL queries using T-SQL and PL/SQL.
- Build reporting solutions aligned with business intelligence and analytics requirements.
- Design, build, and test databases and reporting objects.
- Perform report validation and reconciliation activities.
- Troubleshoot data quality and reporting issues.
- Resolve defects identified during testing.
- Support pre-release testing activities.
- Validate migrated reports against business requirements.
- Design and deploy data models optimized for reporting and analytics.
- Support advanced analytics and business intelligence initiatives.
- Conduct prototyping and proof-of-concept activities.
- Integrate reporting solutions with third-party systems.
- Produce technical and functional documentation.
- Document report specifications, data mappings, and development standards.
- Provide knowledge transfer to project teams and OPS staff.
- Share lessons learned, best practices, scripts, code, and report artifacts.
- Minimum 2 years experience with:
- Power BI Desktop
- Power BI Report Builder
- Experience designing and developing reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
- Minimum 4 years experience with:
- T-SQL
- PL/SQL
- Strong experience writing complex queries and database analysis.
- Minimum 2 years experience with:
- DAX measures
- Calculated columns
- Advanced Power BI functionality
- Experience building enterprise reporting and dashboard solutions.
- Data modelling expertise for Business Intelligence environments.
- Financial reporting and data reconciliation experience.
- ETL development experience using:
- Azure Data Factory (ADF)
- SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT)
- Experience integrating data from multiple systems.
- Prototyping and requirements gathering experience.
- Experience implementing BI and analytics solutions in large organizations.

The ideal candidate will be a senior Power BI developer with strong experience in report migration projects, advanced SQL development, DAX programming, data modelling, and business intelligence solutions. Experience working within Ontario Public Sector or large government environments, combined with knowledge of AODA/WCAG accessibility standards, would be highly beneficial. The candidate should demonstrate strong analytical abilities, stakeholder communication skills, and experience delivering enterprise-scale reporting solutions.
