Technical Lead, Infrastructure
Reports to:
Senior Manager, Infrastructure and Support.
As the Technical Lead, you will serve as the primary subject‑matter expert for our enterprise on‑premises infrastructure. This role combines high‑level technical administration with team leadership, bridging the gap between technical execution and strategic project management. You will ensure our core systems — Citrix DaaS, Cisco UCS, ESXi servers, and Hitachi SAN — remain resilient, scalable, and optimized. You will collaborate with leaders and system administrators, oversee day‑to‑day operations, close tickets within SLA, mentor staff, and lead high‑priority infrastructure projects, acting as the point of escalation for complex issues involving Citrix DaaS, ESXi infrastructure, Linux and Windows servers, Active Directory, and Exchange.
YourResponsibilities Will Include:
- Infrastructure and Network Strategic Oversight
- Oversee the health and operation of Cisco UCS servers, VMware ESXi clusters, Hitachi SAN storage arrays, and Commvault backup solution.
- Provide architectural guidance and troubleshooting support to the network team for Cisco routing/switching, Fortinet/Palo Alto firewalls, SD‑WAN, and VMware NSX segmentation.
- Manage endpoint lifecycle processes such as onboarding/offboarding, technical refreshes, and configuration standardization.
- Operational Stability
- Maintain five‑nine availability and the stability of enterprise datacenters, legacy systems, and business‑critical applications including IBM AIX, Right Fax, and various medical appliances.
- Operate and maintain on‑prem environments, monitoring, investigating, and resolving incidents and alerts.
- Own problem and incident tickets from detection through remediation and post‑incident review.
- Maintain and update knowledge bases, runbooks, alert response procedures, and configuration documentation.
- Collaborate with Cyber Security to review security posture metrics and coordinate corrective changes.
- Participate in incident, request, and escalation queues, ensuring complex issues are prioritized and resolved within defined expectations.
- Support major incident response, coordinate technical efforts, and assist leadership in restoring service quickly.
- Identify recurring issues and propose improvements to reduce ticket volume and client impact.
- Project Management & Efficiency Drivers
- Drive infrastructure projects from inception to completion, delivering on time and within technical specifications.
- Identify roadblocks, risks, and actionable improvements aligned with service capabilities.
- Automate operational processes through scripting, policy standardization, and system integration.
- Develop and refine operating procedures, knowledge base articles, and deployment standards.
- Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and coach a team of systems engineers.
- Assist in resource allocation, ticket closure, monthly reports, SOC audits, and professional development.
- Act as the primary internal escalation point and real‑time technical coach.
- Review and provide feedback on administrators’ work, improving quality and adherence to best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, system administration, or a related discipline (Master’s considered an asset).
- At least 8 years of senior technical leadership experience and 5 years of hands‑on infrastructure support.
- Professional certifications (Microsoft MCSE, AZ‑800, Citrix DaaS, VMware VCP, NSX, CCNP, PMP) are an asset.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Teamwork: ability to work successfully within a team environment.
- Strategic thought: analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
- Deep understanding of infrastructure technologies: servers, containers, storage, and network.
- Experience with IT process, governance, and frameworks.
- Experience with Azure/hybrid cloud integration is an asset.
- Expertise with Zabbix, Oracle DB, and project management is an asset.
- Experience writing and evaluating technical RFPs is an asset.
- Technical requirements (at least 80%):
- Infrastructure:
Cisco UCS, Fabric Interconnect, Hitachi SAN, Comm Vault, VMware ESXi, RHEL, IBM AIX, Citrix DaaS, Netscaler, MS SQL cluster, Ansible. - Tools: AD‑Audit, Zabbix, Right Fax, Service Now.
- Networking:
Cisco L2/L3, Cisco AP, Meraki, Palo Alto firewalls, Fortinet SD‑WAN. - Security:
Forescout, Netskope. - Experience in SOC audit.
- Infrastructure:
You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of enterprise systems while leading and mentoring a team of engineers. Acting as a technical expert and escalation point, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to enhance infrastructure stability, security, and scalability, while driving projects and process improvements in a fast‑paced environment.
Salary range: $96,255 - $122,727 CAD annually (commensurate with experience).
