Workday Data & Integration Specialist
Type:
Contract. Duration: 38 months (depending on module experience see below)
We are looking for a Workday reporting and integration specialist to join our Business Intelligence team on a contract basis. The role focuses on building data pipelines that extract Workday data into our BI environment, mapping legacy system data to Workday, and training our internal team to maintain and grow these capabilities independently. This is a hands‑on, delivery‑focused role, not a project‑management position.
ContractLength by Module Experience
- 3 months if your Workday experience covers Finance/Accounting modules only.
- 8 months if you also have experience with HCM, Recruiting, and LMS modules.
- Build custom advanced (RaaS) reports in Workday to extract transactional and master data across Finance, HCM, Payroll, Recruiting, Benefits, and Learning modules.
- Configure Workday web service integrations for reference data (organizations, cost centers, locations, job profiles).
- Work around Workday reporting limitations for summarized financial data (GL balances, income statements) that cannot be exposed via RaaS.
- Validate that extracted data lands correctly in staging and fact tables.
- Document all reports, data sources, calculated fields, and business logic to a standard that non‑specialists can follow and maintain.
- Complete field‑level source‑to‑target mapping between legacy systems (Great Plains, People Soft, Taleo) and Workday objects.
- Advise the data modeling team on Workday‑specific nuances: effective‑dated records, org hierarchies, and cross‑module relationships.
- Support data reconciliation between legacy reports and new Workday‑sourced reports, identify and resolve variances.
- Run hands‑on training sessions for BI team members on Workday Report Writer, data sources, calculated fields, and custom fields.
- Pair‑program with analysts to progressively hand off report ownership; goal is team self‑sufficiency by month 4.
- Establish report development standards: naming conventions, testing protocols, and governance procedures.
- Advise on when to use Workday native reporting versus Power BI based on data source capabilities.
- 4+ years of hands‑on Workday reporting and integration experience, with a strong focus on Finance/Accounting modules.
- Proficiency in Workday Report Writer: advanced reports, matrix reports, composite reports, calculated fields, and custom fields.
- Experience with Workday web services (SOAP/REST), RaaS (Report‑as‑a‑Service), and integration tools (ISUs, EIBs, Studio).
- Solid understanding of Workday's object‑based data model and security domain architecture.
- Experience building Workday reports for external consumption by BI tools, data warehouses, and ETL pipelines.
- Understanding of data warehouse concepts: star schemas, fact/dimension tables, and ETL/ELT patterns.
- Strong documentation and communication skills; able to write clearly for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Experience with Workday HCM, Recruiting, and LMS modules.
- Familiarity with legacy HR/Finance systems:
Great Plains, People Soft, Taleo.
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI, Azure SQL, or Microsoft Fabric.
- Knowledge of Workday Prism Analytics or Microsoft Purview.
- Workday Pro certification in Reporting or Integrations.
- Prior experience working in Canadian healthcare or non‑for‑profit organizations.
Over the course of the engagement you will build and validate extraction pipelines for Finance and HR data, complete full source‑to‑target mapping documentation, train internal BI team members to maintain reports independently, and establish a report governance framework that outlasts the contract.
